Gather Your Allies – Baldurs Gate 3

Gather your Allies is one of the final quests in Act 3 of Baldurs Gate 3. It’s a pretty basic quest and builds up to the final mission in which you’ll defeat the Elder Brain.

As a preparation quest before the final fight we can make sure we have all of the required allies within BG3. That ‘no stone is left unturned’ before continuing on to complete the tale of Baldur’s Gate III.

What is Gather Your Allies in Baldurs Gate 3?

Gather Your Allies is essentially a preparation quest before your main fight with the Elder Brain. It allows you to summon your ‘Avengers’ of allies, and pick the best companions to take on the toughest challenge in the game.

Because there is so much riding on your recruitment choice, it’s a good idea to sit down and have a long think about who you want to bring with you. Think about your character and your play style, and which allies synergize the best with this. 

Allies in Baldurs Gate 3

Here is a list of all the allies you can gather in Baldurs Gate 3, and their abilities in combat:

ACT 1 GATHER YOUR ALLIES COMPANIONS

Battle-Ready Owlbear. The Owlbear is a fully armored, fully-grown tank that can absorb an insane amount of damage. 

Barcus Wroot and Wulbren. You can summon these allies in combat.

Volo. Volo the Bard has a passive called “Volo’s Guide to Monsters”. This will give you +2 to all attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws.

Vampire Ascendant Astarion. Recruiting Vampire Ascendant Astarion will allow you to use Astarion’s powers in the final battle.

Shadowheart. Recruiting Shadowheart will allow you to use Shadowheart’s abilities in the final battle. 

Halsin. Halsin has a passive ability called spirit of the land, which will give you +1 to all ability scores and +2 meters of movement range.

Gale. The spell and wizard caster. Great for aoe damage. Gale is one of the first characters you can recruit, from the Ravaged Beach.

Lae’zel. Another companion that can be recruited from the Ravaged Beach in act 1. She finds herself trapped by tieflings.

Nightsong. Nightsong can recruit Dame Aylin, who will destroy any minion of darkness in his path. 

Duke Ravengard. Duke Ravenguard has a passive called rallied, giving you a temporary boost of +30 HP.

Mizora. If you recruit Mizora in Gather Your Allies, you will be able to Summon Magic Attack in the final battle against the Elder Brain.

ACT 2 COMPANIONS ALLIES

Yurgir. Yurgir can common Hellstalker Urgir, who can turn invisible and strike enemies.

Barcus Wroot and Wulbren. You can summon these allies in combat

Nightsong. Nightsong can recruit Dame Aylin, who will destroy any minion of darkness in his path. 

Mizora. If you recruit Mizora in Gather Your Allies, you will be able to Summon Magic Attack in the final battle against the Elder Brain.

Jaheria’s Harpers. Recruiting Jaheira’s Harpers will allow you to summon the Solver Harp Squadron- a group of elite archers to support your back ranks.

ACT 3 COMPANIONS

Nightsong. Nightsong can recruit Dame Aylin, who will destroy any minion of darkness in his path. 

Barcus Wroot and Wulbren. You can summon these allies in combat.

Lorrokan. If you gather this ally, you’ll be able to summon an elemental to fight alongside you.

Viconia DeVir. Recruiting Viconia DeVir in Gather Your Allies will allow you to summon Shar’s Faithful.

Ulma and the Gur. Recruiting Ulma gives you access to the Gur, who are a group of range fighters and skirmishers. 

Florrick. Florrick can summon FLorrick’s Cohort, who are flaming fist warriors that act like tanks thanks to their high defense stat.

Inspector Valeria and the Watch. Recruiting Valeria will give you access to the watch, who are a group of melee weapon wielders.

Mizora. If you recruit Mizora in Gather Your Allies, you will be able to Summon Magic Attack in the final battle against the Elder Brain.

Orpheus. Orpheus has a passive ability called Ophic Favor. This will grant all allies within 18 meters resistance to Psychic damage and +3 to Wisdom, Intelligence, and Charisma saving throws.

Isobel. Isobel has the ability to restore 14-84 heal points for up to six allies. This can literally save your life in the final battle. 

Bhaal’s Slayer. Recruiting this ally will allow you to summon Bhaal, who is an incredibly strong character.

Minsc. The ranger companion who is very much tied to the Jaheria quest and companion. Minsc can be first met during the High Harper Quest

Affect of Past Actions

It should be noted that the way you play Baldurs Gate 3 will affect which allies are available to you in the Gather Your Allies quest. Throughout the game, there will be various side quests and dialogue choices that, if missed, will completely lock certain allies out of this mission. This shows why it’s so important to take your time throughout the game and do as many missions as you can. 

Some of these companions are part of long quest-chains that may start from as early as act 1 and not finish until act 3. Some even occur during all three acts. Complete all of their necessary quests to unlock the companions.
