Early side quests and why you shouldn’t skip them.

All of these side quests come before ‘The Dame’ chapter. All of which are completely skippable with the only repercussion is likely being a little under-leveled and missing story and crafting material.

Here’s a list of those early game Final Fantasy XVI side quests and why you should do it anyway.

Main Quest: Hide, Hideaway

Make Do and Mend

Why: Good crafting material reward for the level

Walkthrough:

  • Pick up the quest from Geoffroy in The Hideaway.
  • Run to the other end of The Hideaway to the quest marker.
  • Return to Geoffroy to complete the quest.

Rewards:

  • 5 XP
  • 1 Meteorite
  • 1 Gil Bug

Food for Thought

Why: If you want to learn a bit more about The Hideaway and its people

Walkthrough:

  • Pick up the quest from Kenneth in The Hideaway.
  • Interact with 3 of the customers.
  • Return to Kenneth to complete the quest.

Rewards:

  • 3 XP
  • 500 Gil
  • 10 Wyrrite

Main Quest: The Hunter and The Hunted

Moving Heaven and Earth

Why: Crafting Rewards

Walkthrough:

  • Pick up the quest from Bohumil in The Hideaway.
  • Fast Travel too Orabelle downs and head north-east to the quest marker.
  • Defeat the enemies.
  • Collect 4 soil from the designated markers.
  • Return to Bohumil to complete the quest.

Rewards:

  • 18 XP
  • 10 Valley Madder
  • 20 Sharp Fangs
  • 30 Bloody Hides

A Place for everyone

Why: A sweet bit of AP

Walkthrough:

  • Pick up the quest from Kenneth in The Hideaway.
  • Deliver the meals to one person in the entrance with the Chocobo.
  • Deliver a meal to a person in the bunks.
  • Deliver a Meal to a person guarding the cells.
  • Return to Kenneth to complete the quest.

Rewards:

  • 20 XP
  • 100 AP
  • 1 Gil Bug

Main Quest: Homecoming

What A Bird Wants

Why: It’s not even out of your way, you may as well.

Walkthrough:

  • You’ll come across this quest naturally on the way to Martha’s Rest. Speak to Rowan to pick up the quest.
  • Continue down the story path until you reach Martha’s rest and complete the quest by speaking to Gerard at the entrance.

Rewards:

  • 18 XP
  • 10 Sharp Fangs
  • 5 Bloody Hides

Main Quest: Holding On

False Friends

Why: AP and world building

Walkthrough:

  • Pick up the quest from Brennan at Martha’s Rest.
  • Head to the bridge south of Martha’s.
  • Follow the quest markers north-east.
  • Speak to the NPC.
  • Return to Brennan to complete the quest.

Rewards:

  • 20 XP
  • 100 AP
  • 10 Magicked Ash
  • 1 Meteorite

Crystalline Lifeline

Why: Worldbuilding mainly, but the Gil is nice too

Walkthrough:

  • Pick the quest from Clarke in Martha’s Rest.
  • Head down the ladder next to him and down the one on the next platform to get to the quest marker.
  • Defeat some bog crabs.
  • Return to Clarke to complete the quest.

Rewards:

  • 18 XP
  • 1000 Gil
  • 10 Wyrrite
  • 10 Magicked Ash

Beast Against Beast

Why: It’s not out of the way. It would be more annoying to ignore it.

Walkthrough:

  • You’ll come across this quest naturally on the way to Eastpool. Speak for Fredric to pick up the quest.
  • Continue down the road to the quest marker and defeat some wolves.
  • Continue a bit further and talk to Brice to complete the quest.

  • 20 XP
  • 1000 Gil
  • 10 Wyrrite
  • 1 Meteorite

Main Quest: Righting Wrongs

Red Letter Day

Why: You’ll find out something interesting about Cid.

Walkthrough:

  • Pick up the quest from Glenn at The Hideaway.
  • Fast Travel to Orabelle Downs and collect Items at the three quest markers.
  • Speak to an NPC
  • Head into Lostwing.
  • Return to Glenn in the Hideaway to complete the quest.

Rewards:

  • 20 XP
  • 20 Wyrrite
  • 10 Sharp Fangs

Needs of the Many

Why: …I got nothing. Rewards aren’t bad.

Walkthrough:

  • Pick up the quest from Alban in The Hideaway.
  • Fast Travel to Lostwing and speak to Quinten.
  • Head south to the next quest marker.
  • Defeat the Goblins and Hill Gigas.
  • Inspect an object.
  • Return to Quinten to complete the quest.

Rewards:

  • 20 XP
  • 30 Wyrrite
  • 30 Sharp Fangs
  • 1 Meteorite

Welcoming Committee

Why: World building and getting to do nice things

Walkthrough:

  • Pick up the quest from Alain in Lostwing.
  • Speak to the bearers.
  • Head into The Hanged Man and speak to a staff member.
  • Collect the items.
  • Return to the bearers to complete the quest.

Rewards:

  • 15 XP
  • 1 Gil Bug

Dying on the Vine

Why: …I got nothing  again. It’s short and sweet, I guess.

Walkthrough:

  • Pick up the quest from Emile in Lostwing.
  • Fast Travel to Orabelle Downs and head to the quest marker.
  • Defeat the wasps.
  • Return to Emile to complete the quest.

Rewards:

  • 15 XP
  • 10 Sharp Fangs
  • 1 Black Blood

While the Cat’s Away

Why: You get to feel pretty badass and who doesn’t want to help Martha?

Walkthrough:

  • Pick up the quest in Martha’s Rest from the Inn Hand.
  • Head into the Rest and defeat some bandits to complete the quest.

Rewards:

  • 10 XP
  • 10 Wyrrite
  • 5 Steelsilk

The Want Beyond the Wall

Why: All I remember from this quest is people being shady and rude…World building, I guess.

Walkthrough:

  • Pick up the Quest from Etienne in Northreach.
  • Head out into the market outside of the wall and deliver the packages to the stall owners.
  • Return to Etienne to complete the quest.

Rewards:

  • 18 XP
  • 1000 Gil
  • 20 Steelsilk
  • 10 Bloody Hide

Pride Comes Before a Fall

Why: Decent Money, XP and just fun.

Walkthrough:

  • Pick up the Quest from Leon in Northreach.
  • Defeat the soldiers to complete the quest.

Rewards:

  • 20 XP
  • 1100 Gil
  • 1 Meteorite

Friend of the People

Why: Doing nice things is nice, being paid to do it is better.

Walkthrough:

  • Pick up the quest from Mathieu in Lostwing.
  • Speak to the various bearers around the garrison but the one healing must be left until last.
  • Head to the Veil and speak to someone there to complete the quest.

Rewards:

  • 18 XP
  • 1000 Gil
  • 25 Magicked Ash

Main Quest: The Dame

The final section of the rather basic side quests occur after ‘The Dame’ chapter. Which unlocks two more quests for us to try and complete.

All Bark

Why: World building, sweet karma, and AP.

Walkthrough:

  • You’ll find this quest naturally during the story. Talk to Benoit to pick up the quest.
  • Head North-west and defeat the wolf.
  • Return to Benoit and choose whatever dialogue option you prefer.
  • Return to where the wolf was and interact there to complete the quest.

Rewards:

  • 20 XP
  • 150 AP
  • 30 Magicked Ash

Playthings

Why: Painful world building that will leave you depressed.

Walkthrough:

  • Pick up the quest from Lisette in Moore.
  • Follow the south-west road and talk to a villager.
  • Head to the windmill close by.
  • Head closer to the windmill to complete the quest.

Rewards:

  • 18 XP
  • 20 Magicked Ash
