After joining SEGA back in 1989 and becoming general director of the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios, the Yakuza and Judgment series creator is now said to be on a possible exit in order to join the Chinese mobile and PC gaming company, NetEase.
Though a final contract is yet to be signed, the negotiations between both NetEase and Toshihiro Nagoshi is said to still be on-going. It is widely known that both NetEase and their rival company, Tencent, have been eagerly recruiting Japanese dev talent for a while now.
As well as the Yakuza and Judgment series, Toshihiro Nagoshi is also known for working on other iconic titles too such as Daytona USA, Virtua Fighter, Shenmue and many more…
His most recent games have been the release of action role-playing game, Sakura Wars, which is regarded as a soft reboot of the series. Team Sonic Racing, and Yakuza: Like a Dragon which had a significant change in direction with a completely new protagonist and turning from a real-time combat game into more of a role-playing RPG.
As a massive fan of the Yakuza series, one does wonder what will become of the series when and if he does decide to leave.
For now fans can look forward to other upcoming titles such as the release of Lost Judgment this September 24th and Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania on October 5th which will include the previous Yakuza series game protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu.
