The opening cutscene for Falstread Darak in No Rest for the Wicked.

How to Beat Falstread Darak in No Rest for the Wicked

Game Guides No Rest For The Wicked

To complete the Of Rats and Raiders quest, you must take down Falstread Darak in No Rest for the Wicked. In this guide, I’ll walk you through defeating the first and second forms of Falstread Darak.

Like when fighting Warrick, make sure to bring plenty of food and potions with you. I highly recommend clearing the Innkeeper’s Husband quest first in order to unlock Gordon’s food ingredient shop. It will be extremely helpful in making recipes, plus it will give you a new recipe using the herbs found in the sewer.

How to Beat the First Form of Falstread Darak

When fighting Falstread Darak in No Rest For The Wicked, you’ll want to know the different attacks he uses as well as the best time to attack him. Falstread Darak will start each encounter during the fight by either walking toward you or letting out a roar. Afterward, he’ll come at you with one of two charge attacks.

First Charge Attack

In the first charge attack, he’ll run at you with his sword held behind him. When he reaches you, he will slam his sword onto the ground. A well-timed roll is all you need to avoid this attack. I recommend either rolling behind him or to his side.

After this attack, he’ll be stunned on the ground for a few seconds. You’ll have just enough time to back away before his counterattack begins.

There are three ways he may counter attack. These can vary, but I was able to predict them with decent accuracy based on where I was near him.

  • If you’re near his face, he’s likely to attack you by slamming his sword quickly three times, followed by a large spinning attack. He may follow this with another spin attack, which will leave him stunned for a second.
  • If you’re on the sides or behind him, he may kick you. You’ll be able to tell if he’s doing this by the movement of his legs.
  • If you’re behind him, he’s likely to go straight into a swinging spin attack. This has a decent range, so you’ll want to back away quickly.

Generally, the goal is to hit him with four swings when he is stunned, then back away to avoid his following attacks. Afterward, he’ll recover and begin to walk toward you before beginning another charge attack.

Second Charge Attack

For the second charge attack, he’ll come at you with his sword at his side, rather than pointed behind him. Instead of slamming his sword, he’ll swing his shield at you. This can both knock you off balance and damage you, so roll to the side to avoid it. If you’re too close after rolling, he may kick you.

You can hit him once or twice after this attack, but he recovers a lot faster than if he uses the first charge attack that slams his sword. He’ll counterattack quickly, so get your hit in and retreat to the other side of the room.

How to Beat the Second Form of Falstread Darak

After depleting Falstread Darak’s health the first time, the Pestilence will take over him. In this new phase, you’ll need to worry about his sword and the tentacles coming out of him.

The tentacles allow him to do several long range attacks. This includes slamming towards you from the other side of the room, which packs a punch, and being used to quickly throw Falstread Darak over to where you are. The easiest way to attack him in this phase is to let the tentacles throw him over to you, roll to dodge, and then hit him with a flurry of attacks before he recovers. It’s extremely similar to fighting his first charge attack from his first form. So long as you keep your distance after attacking, you’ll defeat Falstread Darak’s second phase with ease.
