In this Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Prologue & Chapter 1 Star Piece Locations Guide, we’ll be covering all locations for these collectables in the Prologue and Chapter 1. Star Pieces can be used for trading and are usually found in hidden areas, so keep your eyes peeled and search everywhere.
Prologue Star Pieces Locations

There are 6 Star Piece in the Prologue of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, which takes place in Rogueport.
- There is a house to the left of the Badge Shop in Rogueport’s Main Square. Jump on top of the house and go to the far left side, near the edge. Walk towards the background to find the first Star Piece.
- Go through the archway in the middle of the square. You’ll enter a dreary part of town. Go to the left and enter through the door into the garbage-filled room. Behind the mattress, against the wall, is another Star Piece.
- To the right of the Main Square exit, there are wooden boxes in front of the fence where you’ll find another Star Piece.
- There is an alley by the Wizard’s shop where a character named Darkly stands. Walk down the alley behind this character, jump on the crates, and walk to the right to get behind the house. There, you’ll find another Star Piece.
- After fighting the enemies near the floating platform, walk down the steps and you’ll come across yellow boxes with question marks on them. Smash them with your hammer until you find a warp pipe. Travel down it and search behind the box with a face for another Star Piece.
- There is another Star Piece behind the column behind a character named Dazzle.
Chapter 1 Star Piece Locations In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

There are 14 Star Pieces in Chapter 1 of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.
Petal Meadows
- Hit the tree to the left of the shake down in Petal Meadows to find the first Star Piece.
- Take a warp pipe to the round hills and travel to the right, pass the blue question mark, to find the next one.
- Leave the village by taking the exit on the right. Search the first section of grass for a Star Piece.
- In the area with blue and yellow boxes that move up and down, there are two Star Pieces. Get on the blue box, which will take you to a doorway, where you’ll find the first one inside.
- Do the same thing, but with a yellow box to find the second one.
- In the area with the gaps and switches, there is a window behind the third gap. Jump through it and go right and you’ll find a Star Piece.
- In a long room with an elevator block, use Koops to hit the switch while Mario stands on the block. It will rise to a ledge. Walk to the left side of the ledge and walk sideways through the bars, then go back to the right to find the Star Piece.
- In between two houses in the alley, Mario can turn sideways. This takes him to a lot where he can find a Star Piece by searching near the wooden crates.
Rogueport
- A new section of Rogueport opens once Zess T. moves. Passing through the door to the left of the item shop. Right behind the brick wall is a Star Piece.
- In the same area, search behind the warp pipe in the flower garden to find another Star Piece.
- Also, in this area, travel all the way to the left side and search against the wall for a third Star Piece.
Sewers
- Stand on the sewer grate next to the casino and turn sideways. Fall down onto a platform. Search behind the right edge of the platform to find the first Star Piece in this area.
- You’ll have to return to the surface through the wrap pipe and jump back down to the platform. Head across the floating platforms and through the door to the right. Behind the column is a Star Piece.
- In this same area, walk to the right and search behind the broken column in the foreground for another Star Piece.
