Paper Mario The Thousand-Year Door (2024)

In this Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Partner Guide, we’ll be covering all the partners that join Mario on his adventure and their abilities. There are a total of seven permanent partners and two temporary partners, each with unique moves. Some moves require Flower Points (FP), which can be restored by sleeping, finding treasure boxes, and consuming syrups or other healing items. The total number of FP can be increased when leveling up.

Goombella

Goombella partner guide and abilities in Paper Mario The Thousand-Year Door

Goombella, who you meet at Rogueport, is the first partner to join Mario. She has four unique moves. 

  • Headbonk: A jump attack that does 1-3 damage. It can be activated by pressing A when she lands on an enemy. Requires 0 FP.
  • Tattle: Learn enemy stats (like HP, Attack, Defense, and strategies to defeat) by lining the cursor up in the circle with a time limit. Requires 0 FP.
  • Multibonk: Repeatedly press A as Goombella lands on the enemy to bounce as long as A is pressed with decreasing damage each bounce. Requires 3 FP.
  • Rally Wink: Kiss Mario and give him an extra chance to attack by rapidly tapping the corresponding button shown on the screen until the gauge passes the mark. Requires 4 FP.

Koops

Koops partner guide and abilities includes Shell Toss and Shell Slam

Koops can be found at his home in Petalburg and joins Mario after he returns from Shhwonk Fortress. His moves are:

  • Shell Toss: Tilt control stick left until the bar matches the red light to attack the closest enemy. Requires 0 FP.
  • Power Shell: Tilt the control stick left until the bar reaches the red light to attack all enemies. Requires 3 FP. 
  • Shell Shield: Protect Mario with Koopa shell by pressing A. Requires 4 FP.
  • Shell Slam: Rapidly tilt the control stick to the left to fill the gauge to penetrate all ground enemy defenses. Requires 6 FP.

Madame Flurrie

Madame Flurrie is a Wind Spirit who can be found in the Boggly Woods. Her moves are:

  • Body Slam: Line up the two cursors to fall onto an enemy from above. Requires 0 FP.
  • Gale Force: Attack enemies with a powerful gust of wind by pressing and releasing A. Requires 4 FP.
  • Lip Lock: Suck away enemy HP with a kiss and add it to Flurrie’s by pressing and holding the correct button when the stars line up. Requires 3 FP.
  • Dodgy Fog: Tilt control stick with correct timing to make attacks less likely to hit Mario for the next few turns. Requires 4 FP.

Yoshi Kid

Yoshi Kid is a baby Yoshi that you can find in Glitz Pit. He is newly hatched and the player can name him whatever they want. His moves are:

  • Ground Pound: Rapidly press R to fill the gauge to float over enemies and stomp on them. Requires 0 FP.
  • Gulp: Swallow the first enemy and spit it out onto the second enemy by holding R to fill the gauge. Requires 4 FP.
  • Mini-Egg: Press A to gauge passes the stars to lay several eggs and then throw them at enemies. Requires 3 FP.
  • Stampede: Rapidly alternate between pressing L and R to fill the gauge to summon several Yoshis to stampede enemies. Requires 6 FP.

Vivian

Vivian is a partner introduced in the fourth chapter. Her four moves are:

  • Shade First: Attack an enemy with a fiery punch by pressing the corresponding button on the screen. Requires 0 FP.
  • Veil: Press the buttons on the screen in the correct order to pull Mario into the shadows to avoid attacks. Requires 1 FP.
  • Fiery Jinx: Attack all enemies with fire by pressing buttons on the screen. Requires 6 FP.
  • Infatuate: Confuse all enemies with a kiss by pressing A when a heart appears over their heads. Requires 4 FP.

Admiral Bobbery Partner Guide

Mario finds Admiral Bobbery on the verge of death and brings him to Chuckola Cola, where he lives and joins the party. His moves are:

  • Bomb: Walk up to the first enemy and explode by holding A until the gauge fills. Requires 0 FP.
  • Bomb Squad: Throw three bombs, which explode on the next turn, by pressing A and aiming. Requires 3 FP.
  • Hold Fast: Press A each time a big star lights up to return half damage to direct attackers. Requires 4 FP.
  • Bob-ombast: Explode, doing a lot of damage to multiple enemies, by rapidly pressing A to fill up the gauge. Requires 9 FP.

Ms. Mowz

Ms. Mowz is the only optional partner. Her moves are:

  • Love Slap: Repeatedly tilt the control stick left and right to ignore an enemy’s defense and slap them. Requires 0 FP.
  • Kiss Thief: Steal enemies’ items or badges by pressing A when the gauge is in the OK range. Do not let it overfill. Requires 2 FP.
  • Tease: Hold down A to fill the gauge to make an enemy dizzy. Requires 3 FP.
  • Smooch: Replenish Mario’s HP by 10 by alternating between A and B to fill the gauge. Requires 10 FP.

Flavio (Temporary)

Flavio is a temporary partner that you meet in Rogueport and Keelhaul Key. He is a human with one move called Tattle.

Professor Frankly (Temporary) Partner Guide

Professor Frankly is another temporary partner that you meet in Rogueport. He is a Goomba with the move Tattle.
