Oddworld Soulstorm : Abe Returns, Nostalgia Is High In Our Next Review!
In our latest review we take a trip to the world of nostalgia as Abe is back and we are overjoyed!
It feels like years since we last played an Oddworld game. In fact the last one was Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty back on the PSOne as a young kid growing up with very little knowledge of platform titles, man was the game rough back then.
Well the good thing is Oddworld Soulstorm is no different as it too comes with plenty of moments of rage and controller throwing sessions across the room.
As more of a follow-up title to Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty with plenty of dialogue mentioning the joys of Rapture Farms (the location of the old classic title), we really enjoyed this specific entry into the series. For those who may be new to the series and haven’t experienced the joys of Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty then don’t worry you shouldn’t remain too lost with this title as the game does give some hints and references as to what happened during the course of that classic title. However, as fans we do recommend you still look around the bargain bin and still play the old retro gem when possible.
This time Abe finds himself playing hero once again as he tries to find a way to save his fellow Mudokon who of course are still being kept as slaves by the evil Molluck. However, as well as trying to play hero he also finds himself uncovering a new mystery and to hopefully get rid of Molluck once and for all.
There are many different platform areas to battle your way through and as previously said some of the areas can be rather brutal as expected with platform titles, it won’t be easy… Well… actually the game does come with various difficulty options for those who may find themselves struggling. Though, from a personal perspective we only know these titles to be difficult but each to their own.
All of the classic enemies and even some new ones make a come back including the classic lovable and yet pessimistic Sligs and of course Molluck, all the ingredients to supply the good mix of old nostalgia is here and in plenty of quantity. As well as trying to save the fellow Mudokon which of course is something you should totally be doing, you can also collect and search for other optional essentials too in order to claim that much needed 100% completion record!
Speaking of which the game does feature replayability too, giving fans multiple different endings depending on their performance during each stage. Plus new leaderboards giving fans the ability to rub it into their friends faces as they score top spot and the ability to speedrun each stage with the handy completion time which comes with every completed stage.
OVERALL:
As said we enjoyed this title despite it being difficult but lets face it it’s best that way and as a platform title we expect no less. Thus, I totally recommend this title and I’m happy to see Abe once again. So be sure to get your mitts on it, if you think you can handle it ha!
