SEE ALSO
Still in the Darkness
You can begin your search for the Flare Gun when you start Alan’s chapter here he will be by his typewriter once more. Interact with the Typewriter to start the chapter. Once you do you will wake up in a studio dressing room with the TV playing an interview with him. The door in the room will be open but when you explore the next room, you’ll find that there is no way out. The door in that room is locked.
There isn’t really much else to find so you’ll need to head back into the dressing room and interact with the TV to progress.
The Musical
After some trippy visuals. Alan will then appear in a strange dark place and your mission will be to ‘Perform the Musical.’
There’s not too much performing to do. It’s very dark and very linear. What little you can see will be your path forward. The game may stop you at points to listen to some story but all you need to do is walk the path you find. Eventually, it’ll look like you doubled back on yourself to the start but this time the TV will be on, showing Alan’s face. You’ll be able to interact with it to bring you to the next section. The show must go on, to the flare gun.
The Trophy
After a pretty cool transition you’ll appear on a stage with a podium. On the podium will be a trophy that seems to have a small flame on. It looks like a lamp. Pick up the trophy at the podium and head off the stage. It’s all a bit confusing as to where you need to go next. Move through the tables and in the bottom left corner of the room you’ll find a ladder. Head up there and follow the path.
When you get to the end of the path, you’ll be able to pull out the trophy out to change reality. After a flicker, the lights will turn off and a platform in front of you will appear. Head down the ladder you made and follow the path again. Keep an eye on the left for a tape outline of a dead body. This will look reminiscent of where you first got the flashlight and revolver and low and behold is where you also get it in this chapter to. Sadly, it’s not the flare gun but make sure to pick them up anyway and move onto the next room.
The next room is rather confusing. There is a lot of space to run around and not much to see or pick up. The key is the trophy but if you use it at any point in the room it will just go dark and there will be some shadow people by the cameras. They won’t attack but it won’t get you anywhere. You’ll need to look for a tap square on the floor that says ‘shifter’ next to it. Stand in the tape and use the trophy.
It will make a shop with TVs in the window appear you’ll find Alan’s familiar face on them. Approach them and you’ll be able to enter the next section of the game.
BrightFalls and The Flare Gun
This time you’ll be on the ferry heading into Brightfalls. Once the ferry is in, follow the path to the left. You’ll find a ladder. Once up the ladder you’ll find a desk with a typewriter and the all-important flare gun. A great weapon against the shadows of the game.
Picking up the Flare Gun will earn you the achievement ‘Lights Shining.’
