If you’re struggling to find the Sawed-Off Shotgun in Alan Wake 2, you’re certainly not alone. This is easily one of the hardest collectibles to find in the game, because not only do you have to find the right location, but you also need to crack a combination code. Luckily, the efforts are worth the reward, and the Sawed-Off Shotgun is one of the best weapons in the game. After you do find the Sawed-Off Shotgun, you’ll also unlock the ‘Bring it’ achievement.

One of the main reasons why you’d want to find the Sawed-Off Shotgun is to unlock the ‘Bring It’ achievement. This is one of Alan Wake 2’s secret achievements, and despite only being worth 10 points, it is required to 100% complete Alan Wake 2.

Beyond unlocking the Bring It achievement, the Sawed-Off Shotgun is worth finding because it’s incredibly powerful and will stand you in great stead for future trophy hunting, such as completing all of the nursery rhyme puzzles. 

Where to Find the Sawed-Off Shotgun

Finding the Sawed-Off Shotgun involves two main phases. First, you actually need to locate the Shotgun. Then, you need to crack the combination lock keeping it in place.

Finding the Sawed-Off Shotgun

To actually find the Sawed-Off Shotgun, you need to return to the Cauldron Lake in Saga Anderson’s Return. Make sure you’ve completed Chapter 1 before doing this, or you won’t be able to find the weapon.

Once you arrive at the lake, head back to the murder scene and enter the nearby store. However, you won’t actually know of the Sawed-Off Shotgun’s location just yet. To gain knowledge of the location, you’ll need to reach the Witch’s Hut, read the Manuscript page there, and then do Profiling on Nightingale. 

Once you’ve completed this, return back to the General Store. When you arrive, a Cultist will appear out of nowhere, so make sure you’ve got your best weapon equipped to deal with it. 

Head to the newly unlocked room, and you should see a safe on the wall- the Sawed-Off Shotgun is behind it.

Cracking the Combination Code

Now that you’ve found the Sawed-Off Shotgun, all you have to do is crack the combination code. When you approach the safe, you should see a piece of paper that hints- ‘Check with Lady Fortuna at the Counter.’

If you want to figure the code out for yourself you can follow this clue. Just head to the main counter and you’ll find all the information that you need.

However, if you just want the answer, put the following number into the lock- 739.

Once you do this, the lock will open, and the Sawed-Off Shotgun will be yours for good!

The shotgun has a lot of kick, so it’s a good idea to test it out in a safe spot before using it against bad guys. But, after a quick adjustment period, you’ll probably find the Sawed-Off Shotgun becomes one of your go-to weapons!

Tips on Finding the Sawed-Off Shotgun in Alan Wake 2

Although the process for finding the Sawed-Off Shotgun is relatively straightforward, there are a few pitfalls you can fall into. As such, here are a few tips that should make this process a little easier:

• Bind your Weapons. When hunting for the Sawed-Off Shotgun, you are going to run into a Cultist. And if you’re not prepared, he will easily take you out. Therefore, it’s a good idea to bind your best weapons to your quick slots. This way, you’ll be prepared to fight at a moment’s notice.
• Make Your Way Through the Story. In order to find the Sawed-Off Shotgun, you first need to have completed Chapter 1. If you don’t do this, you won’t be able to grab the Sawed-Off Shotgun, and all your effort will be for nothing.
• Make the Most of the Sawed-Off Shotgun. When you do get your hands on the Sawed-Off Shotgun, make sure to use it to its full potential. For instance, consider applying the ‘Ready For More’ upgrade, which allows you to restore health after healing an enemy. This is easily one of the best upgrades in the entire game, and will make your life in Alan Wake 2 so much easier!
