The Myrkr Tunnels is a rather short and somewhat linear location that you will find yourself having to venture and explore during (GOW) God Of War Ragnarok.
You will first come here during the main story mission Forging Destiny, with your companion Freya. Here we will be in search of ‘The Lady’ and Brok will be most insistent in coming along too. Although he ends up being somewhat preoccupied.
Anyway whilst in these tunnels we will come across one large puzzle that involve gates. This puzzle plays a huge part to this entire area and we will need to fully solve it in order to progress on. Though, for a brief period of time we can only solve half of it to begin with.
PUZZLE LOCATION
This particular puzzle is located within the Myrkr Tunnels, which is part of Svartalfheim. We will first come here during the Forging Destiny mission chapter.
These tunnels are filled with enemy threats, monsters, and of course puzzles! One large puzzle in fact. This puzzle plays a huge significant role within the area and we will not be able to continue the story or exit the area without first solving it.
This puzzle is split into three sections. One section will result in a much smaller puzzle where we will need to gain entry into the area, the second section allows us to solve half of the main puzzle itself. Whilst the third section completely solves the rest of it. By this I mean we cannot fully solve it without moving on and coming back later. It cannot be completely solved in one go.
Anyway this gate puzzle requires us to find a way to open the gate. We will also have water, water troughs, and mechanical wheels to figure out and that are all connected to this puzzle.
HOW TO SOLVE THE PUZZLE
PUZZLE #1
GUIDE: After moving the cart that is currently blocking our path and after having found and spoken with Sindri, we will come across our first puzzle section.
Here we will have two gates, a mechanical chain mechanism, a Twilight Stone, and a mechanical panel that it connected to the ceiling.
In order to be able to solve this one we will first need to go and inspect the mechanical chain. Pull on this to open the gate in the back. However, by doing this we also raise the smaller gate that now blocks our path. Hm..
Keep holding the chain, do not let go of it. Equip the Leviathan Axe and freeze it before then aiming and throwing it at the panel next to the ceiling. Use Freya’s Chain Element to also help freeze this panel.
Summon back your Leviathan Axe and the second gate, in the back, should still be open. Whilst the gate closest to us should still be blocking our path. No significant changes but thanks to Freya’s Chain Element ability we are keeping the gates in place. Whilst also now being able to summon and equip the Leviathan Axe once again.
With the Leviathan Axe now equipped aim towards the Twilight Stone and look for a blue indication or a blue line. Remember a blue line means we should be able to target something.
Aim your Leviathan Axe at this Twilight Stone and it should reflect and bounce of it and hit the gate in the back. If you have managed to do this successfully then the gate in the back will remain open and the gate that is currently blocking our path should then be removed. We can now progress on into the next room.
PUZZLE #2
GUIDE: In this next room we will find ourselves in a room full of water, water troughs, and mechanical wheels. For now we can only interact with the left side of the room. The gate on the right cannot be solved or opened just yet. There will be time for that later.
The left side of the room has running water inside the trough above you. It also has a mechanical wheel, and a small gate passage.
In order to solve this one we will need to equip the Leviathan Axe and freeze it. Then after freezing it we can then proceed to aim and throw this Leviathan Axe at the trough directly above the mechanical wheel.
By doing this we should then be able to direct the water in the trough to then overflow and spill on to the mechanical wheel, thus then opening the gate passage next to us.
PUZZLE #3
GUIDE: After solving half of the puzzle already proceed through the open passage and you will reach the area that overlooks this puzzle. Our goal and objective is to somehow drive the water from the left side of the room to the right, then open the other gate in the process.
Keep following the rooms until you reach one with a mechanical chain that we can climb up, go ahead and do so. Up here we will come across a turning mechanism.
Turn this mechanism in order to turn and move the water troughs. This will then allow the water to move and be driven over to the right side of the puzzle room
You should now know what to do in order to complete the rest of this puzzle. Simply return to the ledge that overlooks the puzzle room and equip the Leviathan Axe and freeze it.
Aim the frozen Leviathan Axe at the water trough that actually has running water inside of it. We need this water to overflow and spill into the trough just below it. Proceed and use Freya’s Chain Element to also help keep the water in place, to basically help freeze it.
Summon back your Leviathan Axe and freeze it once again. Proceed and aim the frozen Levithan Axe at the water trough, just above the mechanical wheel.
By doing this the water should then overflow and spill on to this mechanical wheel and thus turn and open the gate for us. Lets go!
