The Roots That Bind is one of the many optional side quests that you can complete within Horizon Forbidden West.
This side quest involves helping the people of Riverhymm
- SIDE QUEST: The Roots That Bind
- LOCATION: Plainsong
- QUEST GIVER: Nel
- REWARDS: 4125 XP, 1 Kue’s Sharpshot Bow, 2 Skill Points

- Head to Plainsong and speak with Nel to receive this one
- (Note: You need to complete the Death’s Door main mission)
WALKTHROUGH
GO TO RIVERHYMM
After speaking with Nel and activating the side quest you will the need to travel to Riverhymm, north of Plainsong.
KILL THE TENAKTH REBELS
Once you arrive at Riverhymm you will immediately be forced to go into battle against the Tenakth Rebels, defeat them.
FOLLOW KUE
After you are done fighting the Rebels, proceed to speak with Kue, the leader of this tribe. You will then be tasked to follow him. You will be taken to a camp site.
FOLLOW KUE
After agreeing to help Kue you will then be once again tasked with following him.
GO TO THE TOP OF DRUMROOT
Just keep following the quest marker, it will take you through a cave. At the end there will be a metal flower and vines blocking your way, destroy it using your spear
You will then have to jump some rocky pillars to reach the other side. Remember to use your Focus and grapple when needed in order to help guide your path
0/6 GATHER WIDEMAW METAL PODS
You can get Widemaw Metal Pods by eliminating the nearby Widemaw, they tend to drop off when under attack.
RETURN TO KUE
With the Widemaw Metal Pods collected we can then return back to Kue. Give him our current report. Unfortunately whilst doing so, the Tenakth Rebels will come and invade.
Defeat the Tenekth Rebels to complete the quest.
QUEST DESCRIPTION
The Utaru village of Riverhymm has been under constant attack by Tenakth raiders. Without more support, they won’t hold out for much longer.
