Only Child- Gangs of Sherwood

Game Guides Gangs Of Sherwood

Only Child is an achievement in Gangs of Sherwood that requires you to kill all of Maid Marian’s siblings. This is one of the hardest achievements to unlock in the entire game, for several reasons. Firstly, there is no explanation of how to find these siblings, nor how many there actually are. Furthermore, they’re very strong enemies. In this guide, we will walk you through the process of completing Only Child in steps, so you can finally get that one step closer towards game completion.

Kill All of Marian’s Siblings

To complete Only Child, you must kill all of Marian’s siblings. This might sound easy enough, but there are a few pitfalls. For one, Marian’s siblings are not part of the main story. So you’ll have to go out and actively search for them. Beyond this, the enemies themselves are very tough to defeat, and you’ll need excellent gear to even stand a chance.

After you kill all of Marian’s siblings, you will unlock Only Child and be rewarded with 25 points or a silver trophy. This reward doesn’t really reflect the effort needed to unlock the achievement. Nevertheless, it’s still required for 100% game completion.

Who is Maid Marian?

By now, you might be wondering who on earth Maid Marian actually is. In the traditional story, Maid Marian is Robin Hood’s sweetheart, and is generally a pretty useless character! However, Gangs of Sherwood has completely flipped the script, making her one of the most powerful characters in the game.

Marian’s description reads:

“Like father, like sons, but the Sherrif of Nottingham’s daughter is nothing like her rotten family. Marian is a master assassin whose lethal skills are only matched by her dazzling elegance.”

Knowing this backstory will make Only Child much easier to complete. It also helps you to understand why Marian would actually want to go about killing her family in the first place! Without giving too much away, her family is basically made up of a bunch of villains whom she, along with the help of the rest of the gang, voes to destroy.

As for her abilities, Maid Marian can turn any light attack into a magnetic dagger toss. Her real strengths lie in her speed. However, she can get overwhelmed by tankier enemies at times.

How to Complete Only Child

The game doesn’t actually reference how many siblings Maid Marian has. In fact, the only mention that she does even have siblings is during a battle, where an NPC asks Marian how many siblings she has left. Marian’s answer is “a few”, which makes the task of completing Only Child a whole lot trickier!

As such, the only way to complete Only Child is to explore every square foot of the map to try and find each sibling and take them out on sight. Yes, this is not an efficient approach. However, there’s currently no sure-fire way of finding each sibling reliably.

The achievement doesn’t specify that the siblings need to be killed by Marian. So you should be able to use any character that you want to complete Only Child.

Tips on Completing Only Child

Here are a few final tips on completing Only Child. These tips should make this incredibly frustrating achievement a bit easier to deal with:

  • Explore for multiple items. As you venture out to explore every corner of the map, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for other collectibles/achievement opportunities. Whether it’s puppets or perhaps mementos, exploring with the intention of finding more than just one thing is a much more efficient way to go about trophy hunting. Plus, you’re much more likely to stick with it, as you likely won’t go back empty-handed.
  • Equip your best gear. While they’re not bosses, Marian’s siblings are no joke. You’ll need all your wits about you to defeat them in combat. So, it’s a good idea to equip your best gear when you go out looking for each sibling. The last thing you want is to find a sibling, only to be defeated in combat!
