Mouse Pi for Hire is more than just a first-person shooter. Along the way, players will run into a variety of puzzles that offer rewards upon completion. One of these is the tailpicking puzzle.
Here is a breakdown on how the mechanic works and how to solve it.
How to Tailpick in Mouse PI for Hire – Unlocking Safes
In Mouse Pi for Hire, safeboxes can be found scattered around, and unlocking them usually means solving a tailpicking puzzle.

These puzzles give a top-down view of the lock’s interior, clearly showing the starting point along with the end point. In between, there are large nodes connected by narrow, empty pathways that need to be traced correctly.

To solve it, use WASD to move, guiding the line from the start all the way to the endpoint. (This is of course for the PC platform. Other platforms simply require the use of the directional pad or analogue stick)
Of course, this puzzle isn’t without its rules. Much like the older snake game for the mobile or cell, the path must be followed without letting the line overlap itself. Walls are also off-limits, as running into one usually leads to a dead end. Fortunately, there’s no need to restart from scratch, since pressing undo (Z) rewinds the last move.

Early on, these puzzles feel pretty manageable, but as progression kicks in, they start getting more complex and less forgiving.
In later parts of the game, you’ll start seeing lockpick puzzles with thorns and timers. If you hit these thorns or fail to finish in time, the lock will jam. When this happens, you won’t be able to access it again. Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do but reload your last save to avoid missing out on the tailpicking puzzle. Remember to save frequently..

What can you get from safeboxes in Mouse PI for Hire?
Upon successfully managing to solve a tailpick in Mouse PI For Hire you will be rewarded with a bunch of good rewards such as Cash, Coins, Secret Collectibles and even clues.
