Game Guides No Rest For The Wicked

“Of Rats and Raiders” is the second quest given to No Rest for the Wicked players after entering Sacrament. It’s a great quest to start with because of the valuable rewards Risen enemies drop and the fact that it begins in areas you’ve already explored. In this guide, I’ll walk you through completing the first half of the “Of Rats and Raiders” quest.

This walkthrough shows you how to get the quest, how to find and defeat Darak the first time, and how to free Rattigan. If you need help with the parts of the quest that come after, check out our walkthrough on the second half of “Of Rats and Raiders”.

How to Get the “Of Rats and Raiders” Quest

This quest is found in the punishment area of Sacrament after the Church has arrived and Odessa is imprisoned. To get it, all you need to do is talk to Winnick.

He’ll mention Darak, a leader in the Risen, and ask you to join the troops he sent to fight him.

Where to Find Darak in the Orban Glades

To get to Darak, you’ll need to exit Sacrament through the area you defeated Warrick in. The easiest way to find the entrance to his fight is by finding the Whisper spot you used before fighting Warrick. There will be two guards stationed here, who will tell you that north is the only place left to check.

Head north through the murky waters. If you’ve traveled this way, the entrance to the cave is clear. If not, you can use your main weapon to slash at the barrier to break it and enter the cavern.

This area of the cave has two enemies: a bowman, and a spear user with a shield. Defeat them and head northwest through the cave.

Climb the ledges to enter through the gap at the top of the cave. There will be a Risen soldier with a sword and shield past the gap.

Afterward, drop down the ladder to take on a Risen with a heavy axe and a Risen soldier with fire bombs.

Move to the southwest until you see a ledge with two skull-shapes in front of you. You can either travel to the left to take the sloping path down, or slide down the two skulls and take minimal damage.

In the next area, there will be three Risen soldiers. One swordsman, one with a sword and a shield, and one that throws firebombs. You’ll need to take them out in order to safely get to Darak. When they’re dead, continue walking to the left.

Defeating Darak for the “Of Rats and Raiders” Quest

While I found Darak himself to be easier to fight than Warrick, the difficulty comes in the form of the men he is accompanied by. If you get hit or stunned by either Warrick or his men, there is a good chance that you’ll be hit by a flurry of blows before you can even think about dodging.

Luckily, Darak’s blows will deal damage to his men. I found it easiest to throw a couple of bombs and a few jabs at the men, then let Darak finish them off. I recommend taking them out first so that you can focus on Darak and his attacks.

Darak isn’t as fast as Warrick, but he has a similar power behind his weapon. Some of his main attacks include one where he swings his sword around while dancing towards you, a larger attack where he slams his weapon down in front of him, and a short flurry of attacks he launches if you get too close. He can also slam his shield down as a weapon three times in succession. He is easiest to hit after performing one of these spinning or slamming attacks, as he will pause for a moment to recollect himself.

When attacking, watch closely to know when to move back. I found myself only able to do three attacks before needing to pull back. Occasionally I could get away with four, but I would usually end up hit by his flurry of attacks when doing so. Fortunately, you do not have to kill Darak here. Instead, when he reaches about 25% of his health bar a cutscene will enable.

Darak will then escape. The quest will change to tell you to return to Sacrament to inform Winnick of his escape. Using the Whisper point you visited before the fight to fast travel to Sacrament is the quickest way to return.

How to Free Rattigan in Sacrament

In Sacrament, return to the punishment area and talk to Winnick. Afterward, talk to Odessa as well. This will push you to the next part of the quest, talking to the captured prisoner.

Rattigan is just a short walk south of Odessa and Winnick. He’ll imply that he knows a lot about Darak’s plans, but that you’ll need to free him to learn more.

Head slightly further south until you can hear two guards talking beneath the gallows. They’ll mention that the guard meant to be relieving them is drunk in a fountain carrying the keys to the prisoner’s cages.
