Elden Ring – How To Unlock Multiplayer (Co-Op) Mode Guide

Game Guides

One of the exciting features within Elden Ring is the ability to play multiplayer co-op with friends and other players.

However, in order to do this things can be considered rather complex and confusing. Simply because of the whole process that is needed in order to unlock the multiplayer mode.

In order to unlock the multiplayer mode you are going to need to collect a series of different items. Items including the Tarnished’s Furled Finger and the Furcalling Finger Remedy

TARNISHED’S FURLED FINGER

In order to acquire the Tarnished’s Furled Finger you will need to kill your character, run off a cliff, get out numbered by enemy targets. Whatever way works and it really is that simple.

This will then activate a scene involving a character named Milena and a mount known as Torrent. All of this will occur as soon as you encounter your first character death.

From there you can search and find the necessary Tarnished’s Furled Finger. Which will practically be right behind you after the scene.

FURCALLING FINGER REMEDY

This one, unlike with the Tarnished’s Furled Finger, is a bit more trickier to get and will most likely take longer too.

The only way to unlock and acquire the Furcalling Finger Remedy is by either purchasing it, randomly finding it, or getting invaded by an enemy character.

One of the characters that happens to sell the Furcalling Finger Remedy is Merchant Kate, who is over by the Church of Elleh in Limgrave. She will be willing to sell this multiplayer item for 1000 Runes.

Alternatively you can travel to areas such as North-East of Stormhill Shack and hope to get invaded by an enemy intruder. This will cause a fight to break out and you will need to eliminate this target in order to acquire the Furcalling Finger Remedy.

MULTIPLAYER

The multiplayer in Elden Ring limits you to a 4-player party. Each character that joins your party will either be highlighted red or blue.

If a character joins you with a blue highlighted name then they have basically joined to help you. However, if they happen to be red then they have arrived in an attempt to kill your character (PVP)

You will not be able to create a party of 4 blue highlighted players. If a party becomes full then it will be a mixture of both red and blue characters.

SUMMONING OTHER PLAYERS

When you have both the Tarnished’s Furled Finger and Furcalling Finger Remedy you will then be able to summon other players.

When summoning other players you will end up dropping a golden message on the floor. This is to signify that someone wants to play co-op with someone.

However, as well as being able to drop golden messages, there will also be times when you come across red messages too. The red messages signify that someone wants to player kill (PVP), and basically wants to duel rather than co-op and take on enemy targets.

NOTES

When playing co-op with someone else keep in mind that if you or someone else happens to get killed, you will need to repeat the same process over again. Each time someone in the party dies you will automatically be transported back to playing solo once again.

Also once you have successfully used a Furcalling Finger Remedy, it will then be consumed and destroyed. Requiring you to go and collect another one if you want to resume the multiplayer experience.

You are also unable to summon your mount during multiplayer, meaning you will be forced to explore on foot.
