(FF7R) Final Fantasy VII Remake: INTERMission (DLC) – Chapter 2 Covert Ops Walkthrough Guide

Game Guides

This Final Fantasy VII Remake: INTERMission (DLC) walkthrough covers Chapter 2 – Covert Ops, in which we will be trying to cover as much as possible. This includes any collectibles that we come across, any opportunity to pet the local kitties and more! I’m joking about that latter part by the way, sadly despite the world being full of the adorable moggies there is no option to pet the kitties, sad face.

(Previous: Chapter 1 – Wutai’s Finest)

Anyway let us begin…

  • So we begin Chapter 2 – Covert Ops in the Advanced Weaponry: Inspection after being duped by Scarlet.
  • Anyway there is only one real way to go here and that is to continue on North. There is nothing really here and the paths are rather linear
  • Eventually you will end up in a rather large room and Scarlet will make an appearance, well a projection of her will anyway. After the scene you fill be forced to fight some Slug Rays and Sweepers, with them both being weak to electrical attacks.
  • Just keep fighting and taking down anything and everything that Scarlet throws at you, none of the enemies are something that you haven’t already seen before
  • Eventually Scarlet will then stop and her projection will then leave. Hmm, but how do we get out of here? The doors are all locked and the platform above is to high to climb up
  • If you look around near where the Scarlet projection was you should see a large cargo container just simply hanging there
  • Simply throw your Boomerang at it in order for the cargo container to drop and form a platform for us to climb up
  • Head up the ladders now and don’t forget to help Sonon up too. Continue on, another scene will play.
  • After the scene once again continue on and you will reach the B15 – Advanced Weaponry: Production room. You will also get attacked by a bunch of Shock Troopers (these are weak to Fire)
  • After turning up the heat on those guys, feel free to explore the area and smash any boxes that you may come across. You never know what you might find..
  • However, your main objective is the nearby terminal computer. This will power the large machine in the middle of the room
  • The terminal also seems to of opened one of the cryo chambers behind you, lets go and investigate. You will receive the Ninja Cannonball Materia. The materia will allow you to perform a Ninja Cannonball attack but only when you are synergized with Sonon
  • Now there is nothing else here to do and since the elevator is currently not operational, there is nowhere to really go. However, alongside the cryo chamber we also activated the large machine hmm..
  • Lets head over to this machine and you should notice that we can now jump onto one of its arms, lets do this!
  • Whilst on its arms you should notice a wall climb or as the game now calls them, the security gate. Do as Yuffie suggests and use it as a ladder to climb up
  • You will now be in the B14 – Advanced Weaponry: Maintenance room. As you climb off the arm head left in order to find a treasure chest containing a Ribbon
  • Then turn around and head over the plank towards the door that we need to access through
  • In here turn left and cross the small bridge to yet another treasure chest, this one contains a Volant Armlet
  • Continue on and you will reach a room with a bunch of 3C Soldier Operators (these guys are similar to the other Soldier enemies and are also weak to Fire)
  • Nothing much here so lets continue on, follow the ramps to a section that you can swing to.
  • Oh how nice of it to join us, we now get to play with a Armored Magitrooper that just suddenly comes down on an elevator. The Magitrooper’s main weakness is when it reveals its core, when this happens make sure to prioritise that in order to take it down quicker. Also, when the Magitrooper’s health reaches a certain amount it will explode causing damage to anything around it at the time. This basically means that the trooper piloting the magitech armor will decide to take you on without the extra defence, it will then become the Enhanced Magitrooper
  • Now head through the door to the North West and we can find another treasure chest with a Djinn Staff
  • This next room will seem rather familiar as the giant machine is back and so is the terminal, don’t worry we haven’t somehow changed floors. However, we will need to treat this room like the one previously, and by that I mean we need to inspect the terminal once again and power up the machine
  • This time instead of activating both the machine and a cryo chamber, we will activate the machine and the door behind us. This door is actually optional and contains a minigame where you can unlock the Materia Mavern trophy achievement, I have a separate guide on that here
  • Okay lets press on by heading onto the arms of the giant machine, just like we did last time. Then climb up the security gate. We want to take the left arm up first.
  • At the top turn left and go ahead and swing across to the other platform
  • Here you can obtain the Time Materia
  • Now ride down the rope here to reach the floor below you once again. Back to the floor with the minigame
  • This time take the machine’s right arm up to the floor above once again. We will now be at the B13 – Advanced Weaponry: Development
  • Here a scene will occur and Yuffie will assume that they are completely lost and have managed to reach a dead end.
  • Anyway after the scene if you turn your attention up towards the ceiling you should notice a wooden plank, throw your boomerang at it in order for it to then fall and form a new pathway for us to cross
  • Exit through the door to meet some Shinra Security personnel. There is nothing else here so just continue on until you reach another room with a scene
  • After the scene Yuffie will demand that she needs more light, so lets continue on by heading through the open door on the left. The other door is closed for now, so we don’t really have much choice
  • Oh look its one of these rooms again, you should know what to do by now so go ahead. The computer terminal remember?
  • With the computer terminal now activated there will now be power in the previous room, or light as Yuffie mentioned. So let us return back to the room with the fancy chair
  • You will now be attacked by a bunch of Armored Shock Troopers, we have dealt with these before so quickly take them both out.
  • After the next scene the other, previously locked, door will now be open so lets go and explore beyond that door this time around.
  • Hmm, seems it led to a rest area and a lift platform of sorts. This lift actually gives us several different options to choose from and for the next few minutes we will have to keep selecting from these various options, as there is more than one of these lifts that we are going to have to take to reach our final destination. I’ll try and give you a quick run down on what you can expect with each choice
  • OPTION 1A: Selecting the ‘eye symbol’
  • This option will have you facing off against Mark II Monodrive B (weak to Wind attacks)
  • OPTION 1B: Selecting the ‘gun symbol’
  • Will see you pitted against Sweepers (weak to electricity)
  • OPTION 2A: Selecting the ‘spiked wheel’
  • Will pit you against a single Cutter enemy (weak to electricity)
  • OPTION 2B: Selecting the ‘vehicle option’
  • Will pit you against a bunch of Blast-Ray (weak to electricity)
  • OPTION 3A: Selecting the ‘turret symbol’
  • This option will have you fighting a bunch of Slug-Ray (these are weak to both Wind and electricity)
  • OPTION 3B: Selecting the ‘eye symbol’
  • For this one you will be up against a bunch of Monodrive (these are weak to Wind attacks)
  • OPTION 4A: Selecting the ‘helmet symbol’
  • Will see you having fun against x2 Armored Magitrooper (aim for their cores when able to exploit their weakness)
  • OPTION 4B: Selecting the ‘Tail’ option
  • Will have you up against a single M.O.T.H Unit (weak to both Wind and electrical attacks)
  • After selecting your choices you will be up against one more enemy, who isn’t actually a choice as you don’t have one this time around.
  • However, your last fight here will be against a lone Deathwheel (weak to Fire, Ice and Wind)
  • After the fight Scarlet will appear, in hologram form of course, then as she says when you are ready take the final lift up to the top floor. It will lead you to a rest area
  • When you are ready continue through the door and this time Scarlet will show herself in person this time
  • We will now have to fight Scarlet and her new battle armour that she apparently designed herself, fancy..
  • The goal here is to focus your attacks on The Crimson Mare (weak to electricity) in order to lure Scarlet out and make her vulnerable. When you see Scarlet attack her using Fire based attacks as she is weak to Fire. Of course don’t forget about the additional enemies that also spawn (most of which are weak to electricity)
  • After The Crimson Mare takes enough damage it will generate these new arm lasers known as Makocannons, be sure to target these otherwise if you get hit by them it will cause considerable damage.
  • After the fight continue through the door to meet up with Sonon once again. We will now be up against a different kind of enemy, though somewhat similar to the Shinra soldiers these guys are from a different group known as Deepground. They shouldn’t be that difficult in fact they have a weakness to Fire.
  • After the fight we will now be in a rather small and cramped room. Feel free to rest here and refill your health bar as we are going up against another boss in a bit. There are some new items available to purchase if you want, these include; Mega-Potion, Ether and a Phoenix Down.
  • Then once you are ready try to exit through the only door in the room. Unfortunately the door is locked meaning we are now trapped inside, nothing is ever simple and straightforward.
  • We will now need to fight a bunch of Unknown Entity (weak to Ice and has slight resistance to electrical based attacks). They shouldn’t be difficult to take down.
  • The Unknown Entity will then be followed by a bunch of Zenene (these guys don’t really have a specific weakness but are slightly resistant to Fire damage). Still just like with the previous enemies they too shouldn’t be that difficult
  • After taking out the small fry the main boss will then make an appearance. The Diabolic Creation (weak to Ice) and oh would you look at that a Projector has also joined us hmm..
  • If you haven’t caught on yet nothing in this room is real apart from the Projector. The Projector is basically projecting the image of the Diabolic Creation, thus you need to focus your attacks on that if you want to win this fight. However, the Projector will become immune to any and all attacks until you have defeated the Diabolic Creation.
  • So start the fight off by aiming your attacks at the Diabolic Creation’s arm and then the main body itself. Doing this should then eliminate the Diabolic Creation and force the Projector to become vulnerable to taking damage, so turn your attention to the Projector when this happens and then rinse and repeat until the fight is over. Simple!
  • After the fight feel free to rest once again if needed and then this time we can exit through the door as it is no longer locked.
  • Here head through the doorway to the North East. Everything is so dark and purple looking now, I wonder what happened hmm..
  • Anyway keep following the path until you bump into that strange man that you saw earlier, it seems that he is the cause for all the darkness and purple aura.
  • This strange man is of course known as Nero and he represents the final fight in the game. Unfortunately Nero has no real weaknesses and he is immune to quite a lot of attacks (mostly status effect type abilities). So feel free to use whatever attacks you want as long as they do not cause any real status effects such as Poison, Sleep and Stun.
  • Remember to keep an eye on your health and try to avoid his attacks the best you can, there is no real strategy to this fight or I didn’t find one at least so just keep your guard up.
  • After the fight you can then enjoy the ending cinematics and that concludes the game
