Escort Missions involve defending an area from Automaton fire while evacuating scientists in the area. They are simple in concept, but balancing protecting the civilians and pushing back the Automatons gets progressively more complicated as the difficulty level of the Mission goes up. Here, I’ll explain to you the basics of an Escort Mission as well as a few tips for success.

Escort Missions take place on Automaton planets in several different difficulties. The Mission will take place in one finite area, so Sub-Objectives aren’t a possibility. All you need to do is get the scientists to their escape ship and extract your squad successfully.
Releasing Scientists from their Bunker
In Escort Missions, you need to release the facility staff from their bunkers while protecting the general area. Their bunkers will have rectangular entrances with an orange or green light at the top, plus a small control panel to the side.
Interacting with the control panel will open up the door, releasing the facility staff from the bunker. A few staff members will leave, then the door will go on cooldown for about 30 seconds. Three of these bunkers can be found on any Escort Mission, so you’ll need to rotate between them to free every scientist. Once the light at the top turns green, enough time has passed and scientists can be released from that bunker again.
These scientists will follow the same path from the bunker to the waiting rescue ship. You’ll need to make sure their path is clear of both Automatons and your own mines and turrets.
Once they reach the rescue area, they will enter it automatically. Each person who enters will count as one rescued member.
After escorting all of the facility staff, the Mission will begin extraction immediately. You’ll need to fend the Automatons off for a few more minutes until the pilots can land and pick you up.

When it comes to Escort Missions, there are a few things you can do to help them go more smoothly.
Use Sentry Stratagems
This tip may be a little self-explanatory, but in dire defensive situations an extra set of guns always helps. Sentry Stratagems can easily mow down the weaker Automaton troops, giving you more time and ammo to deal with the larger robots.
Don the Right Armor
This goes for all Missions, but when you’re fighting against the Automatons in such close quarters you’ll want to make sure you’ve got the right tools. I tend to fight a lot of Terminids, so my Helldiver is usually in light armor for faster movement. However, defending against the Automatons requires something a bit sturdier. Bonus points if the armor protects against explosions or gives you extra grenade slots.
Throw Automaton Grenades Back at Them
When Automaton’s toss grenades, use it as an opportunity to give them extra damage. Grab the grenades with “E” and quickly toss them back to blow up the offending Automaton. In addition to doing extra damage, you’ll prevent your squad from taking additionally damage.
