“The Real Deal” achievement is the first one all Helldivers 2 players should get in the game. However, it can easily be missed if there is a connection or server error that boots the player from the game during the tutorial. In this guide, I’ll explain how to complete each area of the tutorial as well as how to reenter it if you are booted before completing it.
How to Complete the Helldivers II Tutorial
The controls specified in this tutorial are for PC players, but the process is the same for players of all platforms. “The Real Deal” is unlocked at the end of the tutorial, so I’ll go over each section of it to help you get there easily.
Tutorial Start and Movement Sections
Upon landing at the tutorial, you’ll see a sign reading “Helldiver Training Facility”. Look to the right to view a sandy path. Follow the path while following the commands on the screen to learn how to walk and run. If you press “Tab” to open the map, you’ll see that the Training Facility has an orange marker. Continue to hold “Shift” run until you reach the fenced gate.
When the gate opens, you’ll see a gap in the floor with a section of barbed wires followed by two tall steps. Walk off the gap, press the “C” key to crouch, and hold “W” to walk beneath the barbed wires. Afterwards, hold “Shift” and run towards the tall stairs. You will automatically jump over each so long as you have stamina. In the next room, turn to the right and hold “Shift” or the spacebar to jump over the three barriers before the door.
The next are requires you to dive into prone while heading into the following room. To do so, walk to the place marked with white footprints at the edge of the next room and press “Alt”.
Using Items and Weapons
This will make you dive off the ledge and land in a crawling position. Use the “W” key to move forward until you reach the stairs.
The next room teaches you to interact with items and self-medicate. Walk up to the small stand that rises from the floor of the room and press “E”. This will allow the stand to injure you. Wait a few moments and a compartment holding Stims will open in the stand. Interact with them to take them and press the “V” key to heal yourself.
The following room introduces you to Terminids. Grab the Peacemaker from the case in the front, then wait for the case to rotate to grab ammo for the gun. Press “R” to load a magazine into the gun. The screen prompts you to click the right mouse button to aim. After clicking the right mouse button, you can press the mouse wheel to change into a first person view of your gun. Once you’re aimed, use the left mouse button to shoot the Terminid. Afterward, use “E” to grab the grenades from the case and hold G to aim the grenade, releasing the button to throw it. It won’t wait to explode until after you’ve thrown it, so toss it pretty quickly.
Stratagem Tutorials
This area teaches you how to use Stratagems. In particular, it teaches you the Orbital Precision Strike Stratagem. Hold the Control button and press the keys in the order “DDW”. Hold the left mouse button while aiming the Stratagem’s marker and release it to throw it.
The Reinforcement Strategem is taught in the next room. Hold the Control key and press the keys in the order “WSDAW”. Hold the left mouse button to aim and release it to throw the Reinforcement Stratagem’s marker. A new cardboard cutout Helldiver will fall from the sky where it lands.
Press “E” on each of the three cases in the next room to supply up. Tap the “R” key to reload, which will open up the gate to the next room. There will be a tunnel that unleashes the same type of Terminid as the one from the previous room. Use the new gun to mow it down, then toss a grenade into the tunnel to destroy it. If you need to swap between the two guns you have, press “1” to activate your primary weapon or press “2” to place your secondary weapon in your hands.
In the following room, you’ll learn to summon a machine gun using a Stratagem. Hold the Control button and press your keys in the order “SASWD”. Hold the left mouse button and release it to throw the Stratagem’s marker. Once it lands, interact with it to get the Machine Gun. Next, you’ll need to call in the Resupply Stratagem by holding the control button and pressing the keys “SSWD”. Interact with the dropped supplies to get ammo, grenades, and Stims.
Tutorial Final Area
The final area has a terminal and a flag. Press “E” on the terminal to turn it on, then press “E” once it is activated to begin using it. The first puzzle for the terminal has you pressing the “WASD” keys to match the arrows, just like you do for Stratagems. Afterwards, the terminal will instruct you to take the flag and then plant it where it can be seen.
Grab the flag with “E” and head to the metal circle in the center of the area, pressing “E” again to plant it. Click the “B” key to salute the flag, causing Terminids to release from the two tunnels. Press “3” to equip the Machine Gun and mow them down to unlock the way to the end of the tutorial. Once you grab your cape and leave, the “The Real Deal” achievement will be yours.
How to Replay the Helldivers 2 Tutorial for “The Real Deal”
When I first played Helldivers 2, I was booted from the tutorial before I reached the end. This meant that there were a few things I didn’t learn before starting the game and that I never actually unlocked the “The Real Deal” achievement like most players did.
If you’re in a similar situation, there is actually an easy fix to this. First, press the button that opens up the menu. This menu should show you the current Major Order, the name of your ship, your squad, and a few other details. Look to the bottom left corner to find three buttons. The top button reads “Play Tutorial”.
Click the button and hold the left mouse button to confirm that you want to reenter the tutorial. Once you’ve completed it fully, the “The Real Deal” achievement will be yours.
