The Rise of the Ronin– Cultural Exchange Quest is a main mission that takes you to Kanagawa Post, where you must search for the whereabouts of Consul Harris with two of your companions. The quest takes you all over the post, fighting expulsionists, sneaking into heavily fortified areas, and battling a skilled swordsman.
Beginning of the Rise of the Ronin- Cultural Exchange Quest
To begin the Rise of the Ronin– Cultural Exchange Quest, go to Kanagawa Post after meeting with Ernest Satow and talk to Yukichi Fukuzawa. He tells you that he hasn’t found a trace of Consul Harris’s location and has no idea where he could be. You have two dialogue options.
- “Let’s track him down.”
- “The Hongakuji Temple?”
Select “Let’s track him down” to continue the quest.
Follow Yukichi around the post as he explains the history of the place. He’ll stop and the two of you talk about finding where the Consul is hiding. You have two more dialogue options.
- “Agreed.”
- “I need a little time.”
Select “Agreed” to continue.
Investigate Harris’s Whereabouts
Before you begin the mission, you get to pick which allies you want to fight by your side.
Your next objective is to investigate five locations to learn about Harris’s whereabouts. Harris is hiding at one of the five locations and you are not required to search all five places unless you want to do the optional objective: defeat two formidable foes. If you just wish to find Harris without doing the others, find the objective that’s in a building surrounded by stone walls. All locations of interest are marked on your map.
The first group you’ll run into is right across the bridge. There are three men in green shirts. You can kill them by taking them head-on or sneaking up on them.
The next group is in the section surrounded by a sturdy wooden wall in the Kanagawa Post. To sneak in, go left of the entrance and circle the side until you come across a guard tower. Use your grappling hook to pull yourself up. Turn around and the building nearest the wall will have a grappling point. Use your glider to get close enough to use the grappling hook. There will be an enemy on the roof, so be cautious. You must defeat all seven expulsionists here. You can find a chest in one of the buildings with some valuable loot.
Formidable Foes
The Formidable Foes are in two of the five locations. The group near the lake, to the right of the first group you came across by the bridge, will have one of the formidable foes plus four other expulsionists. You can sneak through the tall flowers or onto the roof to stealth kill them or take them head-on.
The second formidable foe is hiding in a section of the Kanagawa Post surrounded by a smaller wooden fence. The area is overgrown with a lot of green foliage. A section of the fence is damaged and you can use the tall grass as cover to crouch and sneak in. You can continue to sneak around and take down the expulsionists or attack them.
Finding Harris
If you head to the other side of the outpost, there is a heavily fortified section surrounded by stone walls. You can avoid your enemies by sneaking in through a crumbled part of the stone wall and then walking along the top of it. Circle the building with the marker on it until you find the broken wall, where you can crouch under it and sneak in.
Inside the building, you have no choice but to fight the foreign swordsman standing guard. He is the last thing between you and Harris.
Once defeated, but not killed, Yukichi interrupts. He recognized the swordsman as Jules Burnet, an ally. Jules Burnet tells Consul Harris that it’s safe to come out and Harris is angry when he sees you. You have two dialogue options.
- “Where is the samurai who guarded you in the Consulate?”
- “I am not going to kill you.”
Whichever one you select, the Consul and swordsman offer to help you if you take care of the guards for them. And that’s how you can find Consul Harris in the Rise of the Ronin Cultural Exchange Quest.
