How to unlock the Midnight Crossing trophy achievement in Rise of the Ronin

To get the Rise of the Ronin Midnight Crossing Trophy, find the nearest Longhouse to attempt the “Midnight” difficulty mode. When you arrive, a notification tells you that the Testament of the Souls from Katsura is now available. It lets you relive past events and allows you to carry out unfinished business in previously visited areas.

What to Know About Midnight Mode

From Testament of the Souls, you can switch between three types of missions: Ronin Missions (main story missions), Bong Missions, and Area. Missions that can be played in “Midnight” mode are marked by a Veiled Edge Symbol. When you complete the mission for the first time, it will fill the gauge at the bottom right of your screen. When you max out the gauge, you will unlock “Midnight” mode missions and areas for the next chapter.

To switch to the “Midnight” difficulty, press L3 and use L1 to switch between the different types of missions. When you select a mission, an on-screen notification lets you know that the mode will allow you to get masterwork items and other high-level equipment that is unavailable in the default setting.

Midnight: Chapter One Missions Unlocked will explain that it allows you to play missions on the “Midnight” difficulty setting and that completing a certain number of these missions will unlock “Midnight” difficulty for Chapter Two and the Edo area. You can return to the default difficulty setting by using the Testament of the Soul at your Longhouse and pressing L3 or from your settings.

The easiest mission to redo for the Midnight Crossing Trophy is the Veiled Edge Village mission, the very first main mission in the game. This mission sits at Level 56, so being the same level or higher is best, otherwise it is even more difficult.

Getting the Midnight Crossing Trophy

Visiting the Veiled Edge Village for the Midnight Crossing trophy in Rise of the Ronin

Depending on which Longhouse you visited, you may have to return to Yokohama to explore the city and retry the mission. Luckily this can be done from the Longhouse. It’ll spawn you outside the Yokohama Longhouse. Enter the Longhouse, select Testament of the Soul, and then Veiled Edge Village.

You begin the first mission right after you’ve picked your weapons and your objective is to head to the Bladesmith’s location. Along the way, you’ll have to face two opponents separately with your Blade Twin by your side. You must defeat your brethren in battle, and in this new mode, they prove to the challenging opponents.

When you finally reach the Bladesmith’s location, your next objective is to train with your twin. While you fight them, you will have multiple objectives. The first one is to Counterspark in Time with Enemy Attacks three times by pressing triangle. Next, you have to Counterspark in Time with Enemy Combo Attacks two times by pressing triangle.

Your final opponent is the Bladesmith, your master, who proves to be the most challenging. It can take a while to wear her down. Utilize what you learned against your brethren and your Blade Twin (plus your experience from beating the game the first time around) to fight her. With your Blade Twin at your side, you can switch between the characters or let your twin distract your opponent while you attack. This increases your chances at winning.

Once defeated and after the dialogue with the Bladesmith, you’ll earn the Rise of the Ronin- Midnight Crossing Trophy.
