Game Guides Rise Of The Ronin

To begin the Rise of the Ronin In Search of New Discoveries side quest, go to Akasaka and speak to Yukichi Fukuzawa, who has been researching tuberculosis. He shares his theory about small living organisms and Robert Fortune, an ally, says he found a local folklore about a rare bamboo flower that can cure pulmonary diseases. Yukichi asks what you think and you have two dialogue options.

  • “It might be worth investigating.”
  • “Sounds like a fairytale to me.”

Beginning of the Rise of the Ronin- In Search of New Discoveries Side Quest

In Search of New Discoveries side quest in Rise of the Ronin

Select the first one. Yukichi recently heard that the bamboo in Ryusenji Temple is flowering and he invites you to join him in his search. Join him at the temple. He can’t get in because he is turned away by guards on watch for burglars that are trying to steal the flowers. He says if they get stolen, he’ll never know where to look for the toxins and you have three dialogue options.

  • “It’s time for us to sneak in and ‘borrow’ some.”
  • “Are you giving up, then?”
  • “Never knew there was a market for bamboo flowers.”

The first two options continue the quest. Whichever you choose, he says he plans on getting those flowers no matter what. He asks if you’re ready. Select “I’m ready when you are” if you are ready. If you still have a few things you need to take care of, select “Wait. I have to get ready”.

The First Location

Search for Bamboo Flowers in Rise of the Ronin

As you begin, Yukichi insists that you kill no one. Your main objective is to search four areas for the bamboo flowers. You also have two optional objectives: defeat two formidable foes and prevent casualties by using a wooden sword or fighting unarmed.

All four search areas are marked by quest markers. The first bush to search for the flower is to the right of the entrance. There are two guards there that you can kill, sneak by, or knock out. Search the area for the highlighted bush. It is behind the guards, to the right of the entrance.

The Second Location

The second location is also on the right side, but a little farther into the temple. There are three bushes to search for the flowers, but they’re guarded by a large man dual-wielding a pair of axes. He is one of the two formidable foes and quite difficult to take down.

You can fight him and then search for the flowers, sneak in and search without a fight, or search first and fight later. The choice is yours.

The Third Location

The third location is to the left of the main entrance. Keep an eye out for guards patrolling the paths in between locations. Here, there are three guards and one of them is a formidable foe. The bushes you need to search are by the bamboo and the bamboo fence.

The Fourth Location

The last location is farther into the temple, to the left. You’ll find a woman outside the door and she is injured. Past the door, there are more injured people and a large unarmed man named Motsugai Takeda, who is guarding the bamboo flowers. You must fight him while Yukichi tries to convince him to stop fighting so they can talk. Once defeated, he finally lets Yukichi speak. Yukichi explains he wants to study the soil, not the flowers.

After you’re given the soil, the injured woman named Alexandria Moreau approaches and asks for some of the soil but Yukichi is unsure and leaves the decision to you. You have three options.

  • “Let’s do it.”
  • “She had our backs in battle. Of course we should.”
  • “No way. We don’t have enough.”

If you select the first two, she is grateful and explains she believes it holds a cure for tuberculosis.

Rewards for finishing the Rise of the Ronin In Search of New Discoveries side quest are a Munechika, an Antidote Pill, an Anti-Paralytic Pill, and a Vow of Comradeship with Motsugai Takeda.
