Rise of the Ronin- Try Your Luck Side Quest

Game Guides Rise Of The Ronin

The Rise of the Ronin– Try Your Luck side quest is an introduction to a gambling mini game called Odds and Evens. You follow Shinsaku Takasugi as you learn how to buy and bet tokens and guess if the dice rolled are odd or even. It’s a fun and simple game where you decide how much is at stake. You can play until you win or lose it all.

Beginning of the Rise of the Ronin- Try Your Luck Side Quest

To begin the Rise of the Ronin– Try Your Luck side quest, meet Shinsaku Takasugi in Miyazaki. He offers to show you the ropes in gambling so you are not ripped off and you have two dialogue options.

  • “I appreciate it.”
  • “Hold on a minute.”

Select “I appreciate it” to continue the quest. He claims he’ll win big if you let him borrow some of your good luck and the quest automatically begins.

Instructions and Rules

As the game begins, helpful information will appear on your screen. The instructions tell you where to find the gambling dens, where you can expend “Tokens” in exchange for money. During the game, your goal is to guess if the two dice under the cup are odd or even. If you win, the number of tokens you bet are multiplied. If you lose, the tokens you bet are lost.

There are three options on the side of your screen: Play, Exchange Tokens, and Leave Gambling Den. You can exchange money for a certain number of wooden tokens to bet. Ten is a good starting number. After that, select “Play” to begin the game.

The host puts the dice in the cup and sets it down. At this point, you can select the number of tokens you’d like to bet using R1 and the up and down arrow. After that, you choose if you believe the dice will be odd or even.

Possibilities and Results

There are three possible outcomes: Two evens, two odds, and an even and an odd combination. If you guess even and there are two even numbers under the cup, then you double the number of tokens you bet. If you guess even and there is an even and an odd number under the cup, you get half the number you bet. For example, if you guess even and bet ten tokens, and only one of the dice is even, then you get five tokens.

Lastly, if you guess even and both pairs of dice are odd then you lose the number of tokens you bet.

You can view the last 10 rolls on the right-hand side of the screen. If you lose your tokens, you have the opportunity to buy more before beginning the next round.

Defeat the Troublemakers

You can end the game at any point after a round. Once you decide to do this, Shinsaku will ask how you fared and you have three dialogue options.

  • “I’ve had enough.”
  • “I’ve got more gambling to do.”
  • “Um . . . could you lend me some money?”

Select the top one to end the game of Odds and Evens with Shinsaku. Select the middle to keep going. Select the last one if you bet away all your money. As you leave, three troublemakers decide to attack you and Shinsaku and take the money you won. Fight with Shinsaku by your side and defeat them. They offer loot such as Western Workwear, Sea Breeze Footwear, and Beckoning Cat. Shinsaku invites you to come back whenever you want.
