How to Defeat Hollow Knight Silksong Moss Mother boss

Hollow Knight Silksong

At the start of Hollow Knight Silksong, you’ll meet some tiny Mossgrubs that you can kill easily. Unfortunately, the same thing cannot be said of the Moss Mother. The Moss Mother is a bigger version, and is the first boss you’ll find in Hollow Knight Silksong. While she’s not exactly as beefier as other bosses, she is still a menace and will definitely give you a hard time. So, here’s some tips to help you defeat the Moss Mother in Hollow Knight Silksong.

How to Defeat Moss Mother in Hollow Knight Silksong

Defeating Moss Mother essentially requires good timing, positioning, and dodging. Before everything else, here is the list of her attacks and how to counter them.

  • Dive: Moss Mother performs a slanting dive that deals damage on impact. To avoid it, jump in the opposite direction she’s facing, then counterattack from there. A better option is to leap over her and follow up with a diagonal downward strike by pressing the Attack and Down buttons together.

  • Falling Rocks: After striking the ceiling, two to three rocks will drop from above. Getting hit will cost one mask of health, but they’re fairly easy to avoid. Watch the ceiling as the dust and debris will mark the spots where the rocks are about to fall. While the rocks are falling, this should give you time

  • Falling Mossgrubs: Once again, Moss Mother will strike the ceiling, this time releasing Mossgrubs instead of rocks. Like the falling debris, they’ll damage you on contact. Even if you dodge them, you’ll still need to take them out. Defeat them quickly before Moss Mother resumes her attack, since handling three enemies at once can be overwhelming. Learned it the hard way.

After inflicting enough damage, you may end up stunning the boss temporarily. While you can use this time window to heal, I recommend using this opportunity to land free damage. In this state, the boss cannot fight back, and you won’t get any damage from her.

Note that after staggering the boss, the falling rocks and grubs will become more frequent.

Continue switching between attacks and dodging til you finish the boss. Make sure to heal!
