Homeworld 3 Campaign

Like with most games, the Campaign of Homeworld 3 is a solo linear story. Players uncover the story of the Khar-Kushan, learn to control the vessel, and return to the stars to discover the truth behind the Anomaly.

Each mission in the Campaign features one key objective and several smaller objectives. Completing the smaller objectives will push you closer to the final one. There may also be optional objectives here. I recommend doing them if you can, but the main objective should always take priority.

There may be small cutscenes between objectives in a Campaign mission. However, there will also be a larger cutscene between missions. The game will automatically save between the end of the cutscene and the start of a new mission. Feel free to exit the game after as you can return to the start of the newest mission in the “Campaign” tab on the Homeworld 3 main menu.

War Games Mode

War Games is essentially a roguelike version of Homeworld 3. Players spawn in an area and must gather resources, produce ships, and complete the given objective. Once an area’s objective has been completed, a yellow button will appear on the screen giving players the option to go to hyperspace.

Pressing the hyperspace button transports players to the next level. There will be a new mission, but you will have the same troops and upgrades you had at the end of the previous level.

Completing three objectives will complete the War Games. Players can play War Games alone, with friends, or even with strangers. It’s a great way to familiarize yourself with Homeworld 3’s combat, resource gathering, and objective systems.

As a nice bonus, there are plenty of Challenges that players can complete while playing War Games.

Skirmish Game Mode

Skirmish is the death match mode in Homeworld 3. You can choose between playing against AI or other players. You can also choose between creating a public or private lobby if you want to play specifically with friends.

When creating your own game, you decide how the game starts and ends. Victory conditions include destroying the enemies’ motherships, destroying their means of production, and destroying every single ship an enemy has. You’re also able to set time limits, the map itself, starting resources, and how many resources players are able to farm.

If you don’t feel like running your own lobby, you can always join someone else’s. Simply press the “Quick Match” button on the main screen if you don’t care what kind of match you play.

If you only want to play either War Games or Skirmish, you can press the “Filters” text on the Quick Match button. This allows you to choose your desired game mode, starting fleets, and even the maximum difficulty modifier for a War Games match.
