The icy area where Karan is hidden in Homeworld 3

How to Get the Ghosts of the Desert Achievement in Homeworld 3

Homeworld 3

In order to get Homeworld 3’s Ghosts of the Desert achievement, you’ll need to safely navigate through the Buran Ice Shelf. I’ll show you how to maneuver through the ice shelf without getting spotted so you can claim this achievement.

How to Complete the Buran Ice Shelf Mission in Homeworld 3

Homeworld 3’s Buran Ice Shelf mission requires you to sneak past the Incarnate Fleet to enter the fissure where Karan and her ship are hidden. You begin near a small set of resources with the Mothership, five Resource Controllers, and a small fleet of Strikecraft, Railgun Corvettes, and Frigates.

To complete the mission, you’ll need to enter the Fissure without the Mothership being spotted. To do so, you must take out all four Incarnate sensors along the way.

Before starting the first sensor, I sent a few of my Resource Controllers to grab nearby Salvage for materials. You’ll want to gather whatever resources you can to replace ships that are destroyed while attacking the Sensors. This is especially true for those who plan to take on the enemy Incarnate reinforcement fleet.

Before attacking the first Sensor, research the Strikecraft Hull Integrity 3 Upgrade.

First Sensor

The first Sensor will be up and to the right. A Multi-Beam Frigate will be patrolling the area above it. The area will also have a Transport, multiple Assault Corvettes, and other Incarnate ships hidden next to the Sensor itself.

Send in a small fleet of Strikecraft, a Frigate or two, and a Support Frigate. I only brought a single Ion Beam Frigate. Since there is a Transport above this Sensor, a Suppression Frigate would be handy as well.

When this Sensor is destroyed, I recommend leaving the remaining troops to destroy what they can and act as a distraction. At the same time, Intel will place a marker at the location where the Mothership should be moved. Fly the Mothership to this area and stop.

Second and Third Sensors

The second and third Sensors are both reached from a gap in the ice to the left. Gather a force of Strikecraft, four Torpedo Frigates, 2 Support Frigates, and a few other ships of your choice. I began the trip toward these two Sensors by sending the entire group into the gap.

Divide the Strikecraft into two groups. Send the first group after the closer second Sensor and the other after the third Sensor. Aim the Torpedo Frigates toward this second Sensor to help knock it out of the fight quickly.

When the second Sensor is destroyed, aim the Torpedo Frigates toward the third to finish it off. If you’re able, use their ability so that they can destroy the Sensor from further away. This will give them a greater chance to rejoin with the Mothership since it lowers the odds of them being chased by enemy ships from the third Sensor. If they are chased, send them after an enemy capital ship or heavy hitter.

With these two out of the way, you can move the Mothership forward further. The location for it will be slightly behind the area for the fourth Sensor.

Fourth Sensor

Gather one last set of troops, making sure to include a few Torpedo Frigates, and have them gather at the edge of the entrance leading to the final Sensor.

Send these troops in, but use the Torpedo Frigates ability to allow them to attack from further away. Doing this will allow you to easily return them to the Mothership after the Sensor is destroyed.

With the fourth sensor destroyed, set the Mothership’s course directly to the fissure.

The Fissure

When you’re about halfway to the fissure, there will be one final objective requiring you to rotate the Mothership into a vertical position. This is done by selecting the Mothership and pressing the rotate button in the lower right corner of the screen.

When the Mothership is vertical, it will continue to the Fissure and head right in. All players will get the “Into the Glacier” achievement, but only those whose Mothership went undetected will get the “Ghosts of the Desert” achievement.
