Starting a War Games Match in Homeworld 3
War Games is one of three game modes available in Homeworld 3. There are two ways to play War Games. The first is by using the “Quick Match” button in the main menu to join another player’s War Game. The second way to play is by creating your own War Game using the tab in the center of the main menu.

In the War Games creation menu, open the panel on the left to adjust the difficulty. This can be done by doing things like adding an extra objective, extra enemies, or even reducing the amount of resources available. In the central area, there will be a box beneath your name with the name of a fleet. Select it to choose from any of the fleets you currently have unlocked. New fleets are unlocked by doing things like leveling up and completing challenges.

I will speak about all three War Games objectives as they occurred in my game. However, they are randomized so you may experience something completely different in your match.
First Objective
The ships you start with depend entirely upon the fleet you start with. I chose the basic Strikecraft fleet, so I started with a single Resource Controller and several Strikecraft ships.

At the start of a match, gathering resources should always be your priority. Send your Resource Controller out with several of the Strikecraft ships as its guards. There will be enemy Strikecraft ships guarding every resource deposit, forcing you to fight your way through them.

While you gather these resources, immediately put two more Resource Controllers into production and begin researching the ships you haven’t unlocked. You won’t have a lot of time to prepare before the objective of the first level starts so you’ll need to move quickly. As soon as the Resource Controllers are complete, send them out to gather more materials.

The objective for each level of the War Games will be randomized. After a short period of time, you’ll receive information from Intel that will give you your new objective. For me, it was destroying two enemy Transport ships.

Continue to strengthen your fleet while waiting for the Transports to spawn. As soon as they do, begin to assault them and the ships accompanying them. This can include Strikecraft, Frigates, and even Destroyers.

Once the objective is completed, players will be able to choose to go into Hyperspace. However, you can also stay to gather resources. Keep in mind that enemies will continue to spawn in this area regardless of what you choose to do.

Personally, I recommend taking some time to gather a few more resources. The second and third objectives will be more difficult to complete so you’ll want to have as many materials as possible.

When you’re ready to move on, hit the hyperspace button to advance to the second objective.

Second Objective
You begin your second War Games objective with the exact same fleet that you had when you completed the first objective.

Begin by collecting resources, like you did for the first objective. Once again, assign troops to guard the Resource Controllers while they begin gathering materials.

My second War Games objective had me capture two Control Modules and placing them into the proper container on the map. This objective requires players to defend a Resource Controller while it grabs the Control Modules and moves them into position. This can be done by dividing the fleet into 2 groups, but it is somewhat easier to move your entire fleet to one module, capture it, and move on to the second.

To capture a Module, select a Resource Controller and activate its “Capture” action. Afterward, select the Control Module as the capture target. The Resource Controller will approach the Control Module, capture it, and bring it to the proper place all by itself.

Players can head to the third and final objective as soon as both Control Modules are completed.

Third Objective
Players begin the third objective with the same fleet they had at the end of the second one. My objective here was to capture three Data Spires and then take on an enemy fleet.

If you have this objective, begin by capturing the Data Spire closest to your Carrier. You’ll need to fend off a few enemies and leave your ships in the spire’s vicinity for a designated amount of time to capture it.

After capturing the first, immediately head out to the second Data Spire. I highly recommend bringing your Resource Controllers along with you to make it easier to defend them.

Travel to the third Data Spire after capturing the second.

The first objective of the third mission will be complete after capturing all three Data Spires. However, the mission is far from over.

Capturing all three Spires will lead a Titan ship and its many Strikecraft and Frigate followers to your position. To have a good chance of winning, start by wiping out most of the enemy fighters. If you have enough resources saved up, continue to reproduce ships to replace any that are destroyed in combat. If you have ships that are better against larger ships than Strikecraft, send those ones after the Titan to deal extra damage.

When most of the smaller enemy ships are eliminated, chase the Titan with your entire fleet. It is very slow so it will not be able to get away. Make sure to use all of your abilities to take it out even faster.

When the Titan is destroyed, advance to hyperspace and complete the mission. This will give you the Shall We Play a Game achievement, signalling your very first War Games playthrough and victory.
