In today’s guide, we’re answering the question that’s on a lot of players’ minds – Should You Play Kingdom Come Deliverance 1 Before 2? In short, you don’t have to, but doing so will add more depth to the story since KCD2 is a direct continuation of the first one. Below, we’re going into detail to help you decide if you should embark on an 80+ hour journey to finish the first game or not.
Why You Don’t Need to Play KCD1

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is an 80 to 100-hour RPG game that has a great story but very difficult combat. Some have even compared it to the medieval version of Dark Souls. With a difficult, but grounded, combat system, large world, and a plethora of side quests, you’ll be investing a lot of time into the first game when you may just want to skip it.
That being said, you don’t have to play it. Even though Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a direct sequel, it does a great job at referencing events of the first game so you know exactly what’s going on. Details in cutscenes and dialogue do a great job of explaining Henry’s past and how he ended up where he is at the start of the second game.
Why You Should Play KCD1 Before Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

Just because you can skip the first game doesn’t mean you should. Devoting the time it takes to get through the first Kingdom Come: Deliverance before playing the second can be rewarding. You’ll find yourself more attached to Henry and his story. There are also returning characters, such as Henry’s best friend (who he meets in the first game) along with the antagonist of the game. You’ll also have a deeper understanding of why Henry wants revenge, which might lead to you making different decisions to lead to a more fitting ending.
