Once you start playing, Shell Shards will show up along the way. You may not know their purpose immediately, but they play a crucial role in the game. Here’s how to find and use them in Hollow Knight Silksong.
How to Get Shell Shards in Hollow Knight Silksong
Shell Shards are one of the common items in Hollow Knight Silksong, and you may have already seen them as soon as you land in Pharloom. They are small crystalline fragments that shimmer. When you pick these up, they will appear on the left side of your screen, and you can see how many Shell Shards you have in the load menu.
You can get them in a variety of ways. Here’s how:
Defeating enemies
The easiest and most straightforward way to get Shell Shards is, of course, by defeating enemies. Give them a slash or two, or three, and after they die, they will drop fragments that you can pick up. The fun part about farming Shell Shards is that you can simply leave the area and enter again so they respawn. This way, you can defeat them again and collect more Shell Shards.

Find Shell Deposits and destroy them
As you explore the map, you’ll find a destructible statue. Attack it, and it’ll drop a couple of Shell Shards you can collect.

Fortunately, unlike Rosary Beads, Shell Shards stay with you even after you die. You can respawn on a bench or any save point, and the Shell Shards will remain.
Keep in mind that Hornet can only carry a limited number of Shell Shards. At the start of the game, she can hold up to 400 Shell Shards.
What are Shell Shards used for in Hollow Knight Silksong?
Shell Shards are used to craft and repair the tools and Needle weapons that Hornet uses. There are different tools in the game, and they can be repaired by sitting on a bench. Naturally, each tool requires a different amount of Shell Shards.
