Homeworld 3‘s “Prepare to Shipbreak” achievement requires players to successfully fend off Incarnate ships while repairing the Khar-Kushan’s cores. In this guide, I’ll advise you on how to prepare to take on this fleet and how to defend against all three waves of Incarnate ships.
How to Defend Against the Incarnate Fleet
This Homeworld 3 mission can be divided into five parts: preparing to defend, the first wave, the second wave, the third wave, and the short times between waves. Keep in mind that there are two specific areas enemy Incarnate ships will pass through to reach your Mothership.

Preparing to Defend
Like with most missions, you need to start by sending your Resource Controllers to gather more materials. You will lose a lot of ships during your defense and you’ll need to be able to replace them.

Next, you’re going to want to place your Anti-Strikecraft turrets all over the gate. I placed a few of mine around the gate itself with the rest scattered around the open walls. All ships will have to pass through the area in front of the gate, so I placed the most there and spread the rest out around the two major points of entry.

While the last of the turrets move into place, start positioning the Minelayer Frigates. They will need to be in the area where you want them to place mines. I personally recommend filling the area in front of the gate with mines and placing more in the two gaps Incarnate ships will pass through on their way to your Mothership.

Don’t forget to produce more ships and move your regular ships into position. I recommend using them to guard the two gaps, your Mothership, and areas near the gate. I also recommend assigning a few to protect your Resource Controllers if they’re gathering resources closer to the gate. At this time, I also moved my Carrier closer to the gate. This allows me to produce more ships and instantly deploy them into battle.

Wave 1
As the first wave begins, you’ll want to send your smaller ships into the fray. You’ll also unlock research for the Suppression Frigate, which you should research immediately.

Enemies will send out larger Capital ships, like Incarnate Carriers. If you want to deal the most damage quickly, make sure to pick the right ships to take down each kind of enemy Incarnate ship. For example, I sent a small force of Ion Frigates to take down the enemy Carriers while my Recons and Interceptors focus on the smaller fry.

After the end of this round, you’ll unlock the following research:
- Strikecraft Hull Integrity 2
- Suppression Frigate Fusion Round Research 2
Begin researching both as soon as you get them in preparation for the next round.

Wave 2 In Prepare To Shipbreak Achievement
In this wave, players will see Incarnate Transports begin to appear alongside more Corvettes. Transports can repair damaged Incarnate ships much like your Mothership or Carrier can. Place a high priority on them to prevent the Incarnate fleet from healing up and redeploying.

Otherwise, continue taking out Incarnate ships as you did in the first wave.
Wave 3
The third and final waves is the toughest of the bunch. The Incarnates will send a large group of Frigates followed by multiple carriers. Make sure to take advantage of abilities like the Ion Frigate’s beam if you want to survive with minimal losses.

Continue producing ships and recalling others for repair during this wave. You’ll need to fully eradicate the attacking Incarnate troops to win the mission, so you’ll need every ship you can get.

When the last wave of Incarnate ships is completely defeated, the mission will conclude. You’ll be treated to a scene including the Khar-Kushan’s newly-repaired cores and be given the “Prepare to Shipbreak” achievement.

Between Waves
One of the most important things to do between waves is send out your Support Frigates to repair your turrets. They cannot be recalled like Recons and Interceptors, so they need to get the brunt of the Frigate support. I’d also recommend healing up your damaged Frigates if you have the time.

Along the same line of thinking, this is the best time to dock smaller ships for repairs. An easy way to do this is to use your mouse to select a large group of ships. From there, either press “F3” or press the “damaged” button above the tab showing the selected ships.

Then use the dock button to immediately send these ships to be repaired.

While everything is repairing, revisit your Minelayer Frigates and reset their mines. It’s a 5 second task that does a lot of damage against incoming enemies. If one of your minefields hasn’t been doing much, now is the time to position that one differently.

Lastly, glance over the ships you have available and begin producing anything you’re missing. Reposition any ships you have repaired at this time as well.
If done correctly this should complete the ‘Prepare to Shipbreak’ achievement in Homeworld 3
