How to Get the Chapel Perilous Achievement in Homeworld 3

Homeworld 3

If you want to complete the Homeworld 3 campaign and get the Chapel Perilous achievement, you’ll need to escape the asteroid field. I’ll explain both the best path to take through the Homeworld 3 asteroid field and a few tips for completing the mission with minimal losses.

Escaping the Asteroid Field in Homeworld 3

The sixth mission in Homeworld 3 has players navigating the Khar-Kushan through a sudden asteroid field. Players must pass through dangerous open spaces while finding cover behind larger, slow-moving asteroids. This also unlocks the Chapel Perilous achievement, which indicates having to survive the storm.

The first asteroid you need to hide behind is very close to the start of the level. Intel will place a “Safe Point” marker on it to show you where to go. Personally, I started my journey to the asteroid by moving my Mothership to a location on the lower half of the asteroid, This helped me avoid the incoming asteroids at the top of my screen.

I swapped the Mothership’s destination to the Safe Point itself partly through the mission. Depending on the flow of the incoming asteroids, you may take a similar route or an opposing one.

There are two things to keep in mind while finding cover behind this first asteroid. Firstly, you may need to adjust the Mothership’s position to trigger the Safe Point even if you moved the ship directly to the Safe Point. You’ll know you’ve gone far enough when dialogue from Intel is triggered. Secondly, keep an eye on the placement of the smaller ships around the Mothership. If they are not completely behind the asteroid, like my recon ships below, they can be taken out by incoming asteroids.

Dealing With Yet More Asteroids To Achieve Chapel Perilous

The next asteroid you’ll head to has the wreckage of an Incarnate carrier in front of it. You’ll need to travel a wider segment of open space, so make sure to move carefully, keep ships close, and use your Strikecraft to take out dangerous asteroids. Unlike the first big asteroid, I aimed my Mothership directly at the area with the wreckage.

After arriving, move your ships around as needed to keep them protected. You’ll also need to assign a Resource Controller to salvage the Carrier Wreck. Stay hidden here until the wreckage has been completely salvaged.

The next asteroid is a short distance to the right. You can head directly there in a straight line. Just remember to bring the Resource Controller that harvested the salvage with you!

There is nothing to salvage or examine at this asteroid. Instead, you’ll head to the final large asteroid in the area. It will have a Carrier Wreck that needs to be salvaged by a Resource Controller ship as well. I recommend aiming the Mothership so that it remains tucked in at the center of the asteroid.

Safely rest your Mothership and use a Resource Controller to salvage the new Carrier Wreck. In the image below, you’ll see that my Mothership’s right side extended beyond the asteroid. However, I really recommend stopping your Mothership before it moves beyond the asteroid. This will prevent your Mothership from taking asteroid damage like mine did.

After salvaging this last wreck, you’ll unlock the path to the Escape Point. It’s a longer gap filled with incoming asteroids, but thankfully it’s not too strenuous of a journey. You’ll get past it easily so long as you continue to use your Strikecraft to take out stray rocks and rubble.

After reaching the end point, you’ll complete the mission and escape the field. You’ll be given the Chapel Perilous achievement right after the next cutscene begins.

Tips for Escaping the Asteroid Field with No Damage

These three tips will help you maneuver through the asteroid field with little or no damage.

Stop Ship Movements Directly

While the big asteroids are easy to spot, it is hard to tell where to aim your Mothership to conceal it fully behind cover. Fortunately, you can cancel the movement of your Mothership as soon as it is in the perfect position. All you need to do is select the Mothership and press the “cancel” button in the bottom right corner of the screen. This cancels any action a ship takes, from shooting to moving.

Rotate the Ship To Unlock Chapel Perilous Achievement

If you’re struggling to move the Mothership through the field horizontally, try moving it vertically! By selecting the Mothership, a button will appear in the bottom right corner that allows you to flip the ship to stand vertically. You will need to wait for the ship to physically rotate after doing this, so I recommend testing this feature out at the beginning of the level.

If All Else Fails, Move in Small Groups

Sometimes, it’s hard to keep all of your ships safe when they move at once. The easiest way to move every ship carefully is by moving them in small groups. I recommend pairing up the non-Strikecraft ships with Strikecraft ships in case an asteroid cannot be avoided and needs to be destroyed. This will take longer but is guaranteed to keep your ships safer.
