In Homeworld 3, the achievement Destruct Sequence Alpha-One requires players to scuttle a ship. While experienced Homeworld players may understand this, new players like myself will be confused since scuttling ships isn’t described anywhere in the game’s basic tutorials. I’ll show you how to scuttle a ship in Homeworld 3 so you can get this rare achievement.

The hardest part of getting the Destruct Sequence Alpha-One achievement is learning how to scuttle a ship. Unfortunately, there is no designated way to scuttle, or self-destruct, a ship that is mentioned in the games tutorial or control settings. However, that does not mean all hope is lost. I’ll show you a way to scuttle ships in Homeworld 3 that works for both the Modern and Legacy control settings.
How to Scuttle a Ship in Homeworld 3
While you can scuttle in any game mode, I recommend doing so in either Skirmish or War Games. Doing it in these modes will give you time to learn to scuttle at the beginning of the game while preventing you from having to watch cutscenes and listen to NPC dialogue. However, it can be done in campaign if you would prefer. Start by selecting the ship you want to destroy.
Next, hold the “Alt” key and right click on the selected ship. This will bring up a menu in front of the ship. The first tab in the menu will be called “Orders”.
Select the “Orders” tab. The option at the very bottom of the attached list will be “Scuttle”. Click on the “Scuttle” tab to blow up the selected ship.
That’s all there is to it! It’s a very easy achievement to gain, but it’s hidden behind the knowledge of where to actually find the Scuttle option.
What else is Scuttling used for in Homeworld 3
Besides getting the Destruct Sequence Alpha-One, players may want to scuttle ships if they’ve created too many of one type and need room to produce others. Self-destructing a ship will not give you any of the resources that went into building it. Keep that in mind while deciding whether to scuttle a ship or keep it in rotation.
