Monster Hunter Wilds – Locating A Gillopod (Dareel’s Special Research Quest)

(MH Wilds) Monster Hunter Wilds

Locating a Gillopod is the final request made by Dareel in Monster Hunter Wilds (MHWI). It is part of the Dareel’s Special Research Report quest. Which can be collected over in the Windward Plains Base Camp. After you have completed his prior tasks, including the search for an Ember Rufflizard

Where To Find The Gillopod In Monster Hunter Wilds (MHWI)

Collect the Dareel’s Special Research Report from, of course, Dareel over in the Windward Plains Base Camp. This quest will only be unlocked after completing all of his prior quests. Alongside Samin’s quests too. Since both Dareel and Samin are interlinked between each other. I was at Hunter Rank 28 when it, then, was active for me.

Upon speaking with Dareel he will tell you of a creature that can be found over in the Ruins of Wyveria. If you speak with him again he will give us some hints to help us with our find. It would seem that what we seek feeds on pure energy. Particularly areas with high energy concentrations. They also tend to stick to walls.

Taking A Trip To The Ruins Of Wyveria

After speaking with Dareel and getting the information we need you can then head over to the Ruins Of Wyveria. We need to, ideally, be at the lowest levels of Wyveria. As this is where the high energy that it feeds on resides

These Gillopods are really small and, so, it would be an easy miss. Though, I did actually spot one on my first trip here before I even knew the quest existed. Still they are small and tend to cling to not only walls but literally anything. Think of small plastic bricks that cling to the environment and have strange faces on them.

The Difference Between A Gillopod And A Pillopod

If you spoke to Dareel and managed to get the hints of what we are seeking out of him. Then he will no doubt of told you about the Pillopod. Yes, to make things even more confusing down here, in the Ruins of Wyveria, we can also find a Pillopod.

A Pillopod looks, almost, identical to a Gillopod. Almost though. There is a difference between them both. Whilst they both reside in high energy areas and they both enjoy clinging to the environment. There is a difference.

One key difference between them both is that a Gillopod is bigger than its counterpart. They also seem to have larger and, more red, coloured eyes. They are also, unfortunately, more rarer to find too.

Tracking Down A Mysterious Pod Creature…

So we now know what a Gillopod looks like and the differences between its counterpart, the Pillopod. We know it clings to the environment and feeds on high energy. But where exactly can we find one?

With a bit of patience we can find one of these at two key areas within the lowest level of the Ruins of Wyveria. Keep your Capture Net ready! Then begin searching the walls around Area 10. Including the strange white roots in the middle of the area

Remember these are rare creatures but with enough patience and a keen eye you should be able to find one!

We Found A Gillopod, Now What?

So we finally caught one! They look weird right? With one captured simply return back to Dareel and end his questline. Fun ride! I enjoyed these!

Our rewards for completing this quest is x10 Snow Herbs, x5 Honey and 300 Guild Points. Next up is the Sandstar, which is part of Samin’s questline.

Useful Tips Regarding The Gillopod

The Gillopod is a much larger version of its counterpart, the Pillopod. The quest description mentions that it blends in with other creatures like it, such as the Pillopod. Perhaps it is a result of a mutation

These creatures can only be found and located within the Ruins Of Wyveria. Where the energy is at its highest. Due to its unique diet. Their eyes are said to have been compressed due to this high energy diet.

Gillopods are worth 50 Guild Points. Whilst Pillopods are only worth 5 Guild Points. Once captured.

Only the Pillopods can be found outside of the Wyverian Ruins. In other areas such as; the Oilwell Basin and Iceshard Cliffs.

This concludes the location for the Gillopod. Check below for more Monster Hunter Wilds articles
