Monster Hunter Wilds – Locating A Sandstar (Samin’s Special Research Report)

(MH Wilds) Monster Hunter Wilds

The last quest you get from Samin in (MHWI) Monster Hunter Wilds is Samin’s Special Research Report, which involves finding and catching a Sandstar. For a refresher, Samin is an NPC that can be found in the Windward Plains Base Camp. He is working on an ecological survey for the guild and needs your help one last time. This specific quest also unlocks the I Caught A Shooting Star trophy achievement.

How to Start Samin’s Special Research Report Quest

Where to find a Sandstar in Monster Hunter Wilds

We can begin Samin’s Special Research Report after having successfully managed to find and capture the Gillopod. Which requires us to switch and complete quests from both Dareel and Samin, since they are both interlinked and connected to each other. From there return to the Windward Plains Base Camp and go ahead and talk to Samin. He wants you to find the Sandstar. Which is an Endemic Life monster in Monster Hunter Wilds.

If you speak to Samin once again, after accepting the quest, you will get some additional hints to what it likes, dislikes and its possible location. Apparently it has pretty good hearing, so what you don’t want to do is start running towards it to chase it down as it would’ve heard you well before you got close!

The thing to understand about the Sandstar is it appears in the Windward Plains just in the nighttime so you need to find one before the sun comes up. Samin offers up some helpful information, telling you it dashes across the sand and it can glow and appears blue in color. So with this let us begin our search!

Before we set out, however, you might need some additional gear and equipment, such as Sonic Bombs or Screamer Pods these can help stun the creature and stop it from, potentially, running away. Once you throw the Screamer Pod you’ll have a chance to capture it with your Capture Net. It won’t be stunned for long so make sure you hurry and capture it.

Despite its name and how a Sandstar can only be found during nighttime. What you are looking for is not a shooting star. Instead it looks more like a blue rat or, even mouse. Its also just as fast too. It’s a rare find. Which makes sense given that its Samin’s final request. However, you should be able to locate it around Area 13 – The Oasis.

After capturing it, head back to Samin and talk to him to complete the mission. He will give you 5 Wild Herbs and 10 Honey in return. You should also unlock the I Caught A Shooting Star trophy achievement
