In Slay the Spire 2, you’ll meet various bosses in Act 1 and one of them is Vantom. The Vantom is a boss with no complicated mechanics, but has the power to prolong the fight, especially if you don’t have any attacks that can shred Slippery.
Here’s how to beat Vantom in Slay the Spire 2.
How to Beat Vantom in Slay the Spire 2
Vantom is a 173-HP Overgrowth boss, who has a special mechanic where it applies 9 Slippery to itself (Solo). The number increases the more players you have in your team.

When Slippery is active, the next time it loses HP, it only loses 1 instead. During this stage, regardless of the damage of the cards used, it will only take 1 damage. To remove this, the Slippery status must be reduced nine times, ideally through multi-attacks before normal damage can be dealt again. In this case, using low-cost attacks, 0-cost attacks, or the Defect’s Lightning Orb passive can help.

As for its other attacks, it rotates through a four-move attack cycle.
- Ink Blot – 7 damage
- Inky Lance – Two 6 damage
- Dismember – 27 + Shuffles 3 Wounds into your discard pile
- Prepare – Gains 2 Strength

A Wound card is a status card. It does not deal any damage, and it’s unplayable, so it only clogs your deck.
To counter the Vantom, the goal is to avoid prolonging the fight. Slippery may cause hesitation when dealing damage out of fear of wasting a big hit, but it’s better to remove the status as soon as possible. With each cycle, Vantom not only grows stronger but also adds three useless Wound cards to the deck. Dragging the fight out means dealing with heavier attacks and a hand filled with Wound cards.
