Slay the Spire 2 Bound Defeating The Queen boss

Slay the Spire 2

The Queen is one of the final bosses in Slay the Spire 2, and has to be one of the most annoying ones that you’ll have to deal with. She has a unique mechanic that applies Bound, essentially making it hard for you to control your deck. On top of that, she summons a minion that deals a large chunk of damage, and she’s also capable of making you vulnerable to damage.

Here’s how to beat STS 2 The Queen.

How to Defeat Slay the Spire 2 The Queen?

The Queen is an Act 3: The Glory boss in Slay the Spire 2. She has 400 HP, and summons a minion named Torch Head Amalgam with 199 HP.

Torch Head Amalgam continuously deals damage each turn. To make it worse, The Queen applies a Strength buff once per cycle, making it deal more damage in the long run if kept alive. This minion will abandon combat after defeating The Queen.

Meanwhile, The Queen itself applies debuffs on top of dealing damage. By the start of Turn 2, she applies a debuff called Chains of Binding to all players. This debuff cannot be removed and lasts for the whole combat.

When it’s active, three cards are afflicted with Bound. For the entire turn, only one of the three Bound cards can be played, while the rest become temporarily unplayable.

The Queen’s attack moves depend on whether the minion is still alive or not. At Turn 2, she applies Chains of Binding. At Turn 3, you receive 99 Frail, 99 Weak, and 99 Vulnerable. Frail makes you gain 25% less Block from cards, Weak reduces your damage by 25%, while Vulnerable makes you receive 50% more damage.

At Turn 4, if her minion is still alive, she provides it with 1 Strength each turn until it dies, while she receives 20 Block. During these turns, the minion handles all attacking.

Once the minion dies, she starts dealing damage herself and follows this loop:

  • Deal 3 damage x5.
  • Deal 15 damage.
  • Gains 2 Strength.

Since The Queen applies permanent Chains of Binding, Frail, Weak, and Vulnerable, the fight drags on, especially when multiple important setup cards are afflicted with Bound. However, prolonging the fight also means suffering higher damage, as The Queen’s damage increases over time due to Strength buffs.

So how do you defeat The Queen?

Like The Kin boss, the player can choose to kill either the minion or The Queen first. Killing The Queen first automatically removes the minion. However, The Queen has double the HP of the minion and also gains Block while it is alive. The minion also deals significant damage, so unless The Queen can be defeated in less than five turns, it is generally recommended to kill the minion first.

Another important tip is to prioritize cards, relics, and potions that improve card draw, as they are especially useful in this fight. This boss only afflicts cards at the start of each turn, effectively making two cards unusable, but any cards drawn afterward can be used.
