If you’re trying to 100% complete Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, then you’ve probably come across the “Written in the Sand” achievement. This achievement requires you to find 30 different collectables but is actually a lot easier than some of the other collectable-based achievements such as Tools of a Prophet. This guide will detail exactly how to complete Written in the Sand in a few simple steps.

Complete the Prophecy Fresco
To complete the Written in the Sand achievement, you need to complete the Prophecy Fresco. To complete this fresco, all you need to do is finish the Prophecy of Mount Qaf side-quest. This side-quest requires you to find 30 hidden sand jars across the map and return them to the quest’s start location.
Once you complete the Prophecy Fresco, you will unlock the Written in the Sand achievement, and earn 30 points/a silver trophy. This is an unmissable achievement, and you can pick it up after finishing the main story.
How To Complete Written in the Sand
The first step in completing Written in the Sand is to start the Prophecy of Mount Qaf side quest. To do this, simply head to The Haven. Here you’ll find something called the ‘Ruined Fresco.’ Interacting with this will initiate the side quest. From here, you simply need to find all 30 sand jars and return them.

Written in the Sand Locations in the Lower City
You will find four sand jars for Written in the Sand in the Lower City:
- Sand Jar #1. Located to the West of the huge statue, past the spike pit.
- Sand Jar #2. Found by taking the Eastern exit from the Haven and then heading south.
- Sand Jar #3. Found past the puzzle room just underneath the Haven.
- Sand Jar #4. Found in the Chamber just in front of the Old Royal Road. You will need the Dimensional Claw to access the room.
The Depths Locations
You will find three sand jars for Written in the Sand in The Depths:
- Sand Jar #5. Found adjacent to the elevator shaft in the Southwestern section.
- Sand Jar #6. Located in the Catacombs.
- Sand Jar #7. Located next to the Shallows fast-travel point.
Sacred Archives Locations
You will find four sand jars for Written in the Sand in the Sacred Archives:
- Sand Jar #8. Located on the top of the elevator in the Western section of the map.
- Sand Jar #9. Located in the Small Chamber to the West of the room marked with a wing.
- Sand Jar #10. Located to the South of the Temple of Knowledge.
- Sand Jar #11. Located in the prison. You’ll need to get arrested to find it.
Written in the Sands Locations in the Soma Tree Area
You will find three sand jars for Written in the Sand in the Soma Tree Area:
- Sand Jar #12. Located next to the giant stone structure to the North of the area.
- Sand Jar #13. Located past the iron cage to the East of the central Soma Tree. You’ll need to use a Chakram Teleport to pick up the jar.
- Sand Jar #14. Located East of the Soma Tree that gets infected by the Queen of the Forest.
Sunken Harbor Locations
You will find tree sand jars for Written in the Sand in the Sunken Harbour:
- Sand Jar #15. Found in a secret room, to the North of the Pirate-Village fast travel point.
- Sand Jar #16. Found in the Chamber marked with logs.
- Sand Jar #17. Found in the Chamber just below the massive room marked with a ship.
Hyrcanian Forest Locations
You will find two sand jars for Written in the Sand in the Hyrcanian Forest:
- Sand Jar #18. Located in the Lower Chamber that connects to the Lower City area of the map.
- Sand Jar #19. Located in the higher chamber with the corridor that connects to the Lower City.
Written in the Sand Locations in the Pit of Eternal Sands
You will find three sand jars for Written in the Sand in the Pit of Eternal Sands:
- Sand Jar #20. Found in a hidden chamber that can be accessed through the room marked by a city skyline image.
- Sand Jar #21. Located next to the Sentinel Road fast-travel point.
- Sand Jar #22. Located to the West, in the area surrounded by spikes.
Tower of Silence Locations
You will find three sand jars for Written in the Sand in the Tower of Silence:
- Sand Jar #23. Located East of the Northern Wak-Wak Tree.
- Sand Jar #24. Located in the chamber to the South of the room marked by an Eagle.
- Sand Jar #25. Located behind the chamber blocked by a solid wall. Simply use the Fabric of Time to get past it.
Upper City Locations
You will find the next three sand jars for Written in the Sand in the Upper City:
- Sand Jar #26. Located in the chamber above the area marked by the hanging ornaments.
- Sand Jar #27. Located in the Chamber above the globe room.
- Sand Jar #28. Found in the massive room marked by a wing. You’ll need the Gravity Wings to access it.
Misc Locations for Written in the Sand
You will find the final sand jars for Written in the Sand in the following locations:
- Sand Jar #29. Located in the Hidden Village, at the top of the lighthouse.
- Sand Jar #30. Located in the Raging Sea, inside the broken ship.
Final Steps
Once you’ve collected all 30 jars, head back to where you first started the Propechy of Mount Qaf side quest. Once you arrive, you’ll be prompted to return the jars. Doing so will complete the Prophecy Fresco and trigger the Written in the Sand achievement.
