In this guide, we’re covering Ys: The Oath in Felghana How to Defeat Guilen. Guilen is the first dungeon boss that you’ll come across in your first dungeon after exploring the Zone of Lava. The Fire Eater has 1,000 HP and it’s recommended that you reach at least Level 15 before facing it. Continue on to learn more about Guilen’s attack pattern and how to defeat it.
Guilen’s Attack Pattern
The Fire Eater only has a couple of attacks, but that isn’t the hard part of this battle, which we’ll discuss in a moment. Guilen’s first attack involves it emerging from the lava and charging at you. To avoid this attack and put out the boss’s fire, you need to use the Ventus Bracelet. Use the bracelet’s ability to jump over the boss and then use it again to put out Guilen’s fire, allowing you to attack it.
In the boss’s attack, it’ll breathe fire. This is easy to avoid by staying near the back end of the serpent.
How to Defeat Guilen
During the fight, Guilen will occasionally dive for a lava pit. Be aware of this, as the splash from the lava can do damage. Avoid wherever the boss is diving for. Before it emerges from a pit, the lava will boil in that spot. Get away from it or you could get splashed again. Use the bracelet and plunging attacks to deal the most damage to Guilen. As the boss dives in and out of lava pits, it’ll become shorter but faster.
Repeat your attacks until the rest of Guilen’s body breaks off. In the final stage of the attack, Guilen is much faster. This is the most challenging part of the fight but now that you’re familiar with its attacks, you should be able to keep up.
