Today is the big day that all or at least most gamers have been anticipating, as today marks the official release date for the latest Sony console the (PS5) Playstation 5.
As someone who still owns all of the previous Playstation consoles, including the Sony PSP too. We obviously had planned on purchasing a Playstation 5 as soon as it got officially announced back in 2019, so I guess you could say this was inevitable.
For those wondering how we managed to get our hands on a Playstation 5, well simply put it pays to register your interest with various companies long in advance. We did this and our registration was such a long time ago we had completely forgot about it ha!
Anyway yes, today marks the official release day of the Playstation 5 (for us Europeans at least) November 19th, 2020. The day the Playstation 5 is born!
Our excitement knowing that our new bundle of joy was coming today caused us a great deal of sleep last night or lack of, so forgive me for anything that is to come.
Anyway the delivery man came bang on time and despite the odd few people being worried about certain couriers, thankfully ours came in good condition.
We have no idea what the number 117 means, perhaps we where the 117th person for the courier to see today who knows?
Anyway.. we carefully cut open the cardboard box, accidentally ripping it as we went along but hey it is only cardboard. Still perhaps it would of made good use for storing stuff in but oh well..
After having fun ripping the box to bits we finally managed to get to the actual Playstation 5 box, which thankfully didn’t get ripped.
For those who may be wondering we splashed out on the disc version over the digital, we usually enjoy collecting physical copies of games, for now at least.
As we safely removed the Playstation 5 box out of the now ripped cardboard box, we where rather pleased to see that the Playstation 5 box has a nice handle. This of course is useful when carting it about. Unfortunately some past consoles did not see a useful handle such as the Playstation 4 Pro boxes or at least the ones I have did not come with it. This I have found to be an inconvenience in the past and due to this I often find myself carting around various consoles in the wrong boxes. So well done Sony on this one!
Included within the Playstation 5 box you will get the following accessories and games.
- x1 Playstation 5 Console (826GB)
- x1 Playstation 5 Wireless Controller
- x1 Playstation 5 Base (Basically a stand for the console)
- x1 HDMI Cable
- x1 AC Power Cord
- x1 USB Cable
- x2 Printed Materials
- Astro’s Playroom (Pre-Installed Game)
Unfortunately the USB Cable that comes with it is slightly bigger than the one for the Playstation 4, whilst for some people this may not come as much of an issue as they will more than likely just use the cable for the Playstation 5.
However, for me personally it does mean that unlike with the Playstation 4 USB cable I will not be able to use it for charging my rather old dinosaur of a phone, this came as a mere surprise than anything else though as I still have the Playstation 4 anyway. So no big deal as long as I don’t loose it of course ha! I mean the USB cable was meant for the console anyway not a phone after all, still it was nice having a cable that can be used for multiple purposes.
This is also perhaps one of the reasons why the Playstation 4 controller will not work with the Playstation 5 system. The new USB cable is simply too big to fit the Playstation 4 Dualshock controller.
As for the Playstation 5 stand this is only needed if you opt to have the Playstation 5 standing, it gives the system more support in terms of it topping over. You simply get the screw which is attached to the stand and comes with it, thankfully. There is no need for a screwdriver or new screws. Simply pull out the removable section of the bottom of the base and attach it to the bottom of the console and then use a coin or something to tighten it to the system. The booklets that come with the console will help you with further guidance on this should you need it.
Anyway, I’ll admit the system is a lot bigger and heavier than I actually expected it to be. You can see just how big from the pictures below, where I have also included the Playstation 4 Pro and Playstation 3 Slim for comparison (I would of included the Playstation One and Playstation 2 too however, these two consoles are not currently with me and thus I had to leave them out unfortunately). I also still think the Playstation 5 resembles a Kettle but don’t worry I won’t try to make a cup of tea or anything with it, I’m sure that will go down well if I did though ha ha hmm..
Overall I am now officially a proud Playstation 5 launch machine owner! I have yet to actually boot the system up or play anything on it. However, I look forward to doing so in the upcoming days. For those interested I decided to purchase both Spider Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla to go alongside it.
