The Butterfly Collector is one of the many side quests in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The Butterfly Collector is a quest that starts off as one thing and ends up exposing a children kidnapping syndicate! More or less.
It involves having to find a total of 10 origami butterfly that has been hidden around the area of Osaka. Some of which do, indeed, have hidden messages.

Where To Find The Origami Butterflies In Assassins Creed Shadows
This quest can be unlocked by interacting with random civilians and helping them, this then unlocks hidden rumours. From there head over to Katano, in Izumi Settsu. West of Lost Hills. Here you should, hopefully, find and meet a woman that is called the Gameskeeper. Speak with her and she tells you of a game that she organized for the local children. It consists of going around West Osaka and finding the origami butterflies that are hidden on trees in the area.
- We then get hints as to where we can find these origami butterflies. Southwestern Settsu. Hidden around Osaka. Found on trees. Keep all this in mind as you begin your search.
- The purple butterfly Origami is next to the river. It’s diagonal of Nishinomaru Garden.
- The white origami is behind a small shrine. This is around the Temple of Osaka area.
- Pink origami is on a tree behind stables. This is diagonal of the Fishermen’s district.
- The origami that unlocks Find the Child is on a tree that is surrounded by shrubs. This is near the left bridge that leads to the Kojo Ruins.
- The red origami butterfly is on a tree that is at the north side of the Temple of Osaka.
- Yellow Origami butterfly is found on a tree in the middle of houses. Near the Osaka gear vendor.
- The green origami butterfly is on a tree in someone’s backyard. Head up at the Osaka Kakurega
- The origami that unlocks the One that Got away is on a tree by a river’s edge.
- The brown origami is on a tree next to the river running along the south side of west Osaka.
A Kidnapping!
But as we said, there is more to this quest than meets the eye! After successfully managing to find and collect all of the colourful butterflies. You will have additional quests unlocked. Such as; Find the Child and One that Got Away. These were the hidden messages within the origami we found. A child has been kidnapped. We need to find them!
How to Finish the Butterfly Collector Quest
Other than collecting the butterflies, you have to track down and fight several people before reporting our progress to the Gameskeeper. There are a total of four targets to kill in this quest. Richo, Mucho, Shucho, and Kacho. These are the kidnappers who were taking the children with the leader being Kacho.
Mucho is located over at the Kojo Ruins. North of Fisherman’s District. Shucho can be found in the Fisherman’s District. Whilst Richo can be found as part of the All Will Be Well quest. Which is located north of the Temple of Osaka.
After dealing with those first kidnappers, you can then focus your attention on the ringleader, Kacho. Which is part of both the Paper Trail and Chrysalis quests. You will learn that they can be found at southwestern Settsu. Near Nishinomaru Garden. It is basically south of Noda Village
After dealing with Kacho, she leads you back to the Gamemaker. You have a choice to either make her pay for what she did or forgive her. Also, if you do forgive her it allows her a chance to live a new life.
