Dragon Age The Veilguard – How To Unlock The Gate Of Deep Sorrows

The Gate of Deep Sorrows is a Dragon Age the Veilguard side quest that opens one of the locked passages in the Crossroads. This will also require you to collect the essence from Desmal. Let’s see what you have to do to go through the gate!

How to Start the Gate of Deep Sorrows Side Quest

Go to the Converged City and find the gate in the northeastern section to get the quest. However, you may not be able to complete the quest right away. The quest marker is in Treviso, so you need to be able to explore the city. Most players will get the quest before Treviso becomes explorable. If that’s the case, follow the main story and unlock Treviso.

The quest will task you with defeating a level 25 enemy. You should postpone the quest until you get to that level.

How to Find Desmal

To unlock the gate, you need to collect the essence from Desmal, Bloodbound to Elgar’nan. Use the Antivan Crows hideout in Treviso as a starting point. Go out of the Crows headquarters and locate the zipline in the northern direction. Use the zipline to get to the other side. Jump over the gap and enter the building through the broken window.

Venatori enemies are waiting inside. Start by destroying the three crystals and defeat the Venatori. Look around and notice the large Blight Cyst. Desmal will spawn after you destroy it, so take a moment to prepare for the main encounter.

Slay Desmal

Desmal is vulnerable to Fire and resistant to Necrotic. Keep that in mind when choosing your companions for this fight. Use your most devastating Fire attacks on the boss and be wary of its abilities.

Desmal uses a melee attack that can hit one or three times. It charges you and jumps dealing AOE damage. On top of that, it can teleport as well. Desmal sometimes summons Alpha Ghoul minions that share its affinities. The boss also shoots a beam at your location. Two of its other attacks leave fire on the ground.

Defeat Desmal and acquire the essence needed to unlock the gate.

What Lies Beyond the Gate of Deep Sorrows

At this point, you might want to level up some more, as the last enemy behind the gate is a level 32 boss. If you are ready, take Desmal’s essence back to the gate and use it to unseal it. Several 24-level undead foes await inside. They are vulnerable to Necrotic damage and resistant to Cold damage.

To get rid of the undeads, you need to kill General Rathera. Go into the room on the left of the steel gate that blocks your way to the General. Use the wisp in this room to reach this mini-boss. Defeat it and don’t forget to get the Memento.

To clear the Gate of Deep Sorrows, you have to kill the main enemy here, Betrayal of Felassan. You will know you are close to this boss when the Caretaker appears and alerts you about it. You can reconfigure your party before engaging the boss, as Felassan is a notable enemy.
