The Lost Log Side quest in Echoes of Aincrad does not have any pre-requisite side quests you must complete first but before you can trigger the quest, you need to find the trinket first. It is found near the Elfa Maze Mountain Region. It spawns right near the approach to the safe area. Once you spot it, grab it and you’ll be able to officially start the quest.

How to Complete the Lost Log Side quest in Echoes of Aincrad
Go to Tolbana and look for the Merchant NPC. She explains that she loves to write all about her explorations. The problem is she lost her notebook after running for her life. Since you put your life in danger all the time, she figures you will be able to help her retrieve it!
Go to the location marked on your map and approach the Flowering Nepenthes once you come across it. This is the enemy you will need to defeat to be able to grab the notebook.
One thing you should know is that the enemy can summon minions throughout the fight to assist them. When they appear, defeat them first, or they will end up overwhelming you. Also, make sure to stock up on cleansing crystals so they can help you if you end up getting affected by the sleeping ailment.
After the enemy is dead, then you can go grab the Merchant’s Old Notebook. It is nearby so you do not need to go very far to look for it. Head back to Tolbana to the Merchant NPC who gave you the quest. As a reward for finding her notebook you will get 200 experience points, a cleansing crystal, and The Thirteen Ordeals Blueprint.
