How to Defeat Slay the Spire 2 Waterfall Giant boss – Best Tips

Slay the Spire 2

In Slay the Spire 2, the faster you defeat enemies or bosses, the better the outcome. This is especially true for the Waterfall Giant. This boss will attempt to prolong the fight by dealing damage, forcing you to use block cards, and healing itself. The fight can drag on, but that’s the last thing you want when facing this boss.

Here’s how to defeat the Waterfall Giant in Slay the Spire 2.

How to Defeat the Slay the Spire 2 Waterfall Giant boss?

Waterfall Giant is a 250HP Act 1 Underdocks boss in Slay the Spire 2.

This boss will gradually gain Steam Eruption as it cycles between dealing damage, applying Weak, and healing itself.

It starts the first turn with Pressurize. During this turn, the boss won’t attack and won’t have a shield, so feel free to deal free damage or use it as a setup phase.

Afterwards, it will start with its five-move attack cycle.

  1. Deal 15 damage, apply 1 weak, gain 3 Steam Erruption
  2. Deal 10 damage, gain 3 Steam Erruption
  3. Heal 15 HP per player, gain 3 Steam Erruption
  4. Deal 20 damage (This increases by 5 each use), gain 3 Steam Erruption
  5. Deals 13 damage, gain 3 Steam Erruption

Like the Lagavulin Matriarch, this boss makes you more vulnerable to damage due to weak status, and it will also try to prolong the fight by healing.

This boss will certainly test your cards. You need quick, fast attacks that deal serious damage, along with good defense. Block accordingly so his attacks don’t lower your health, and finish him quickly so that Steam Eruption doesn’t stack too high.

What is Steam Erruption in Slay the Spire 2?

The Waterfall Giant boss has a unique mechanic called Steam Eruption. It’s a buff that the boss applies to itself.

When killed, the Waterfall Giant will explode based on the number of Steam Eruptions it has. This boss starts gaining 3 Steam Eruption per turn from the second turn onward.

This means the fight doesn’t end by simply killing the boss. You need to defeat it before the number of Steam Eruptions exceeds your current HP, or make sure you have enough block by the end.

When the boss dies, it becomes invulnerable and stunned. On its next turn, it will explode. You can use this window to gain block or apply Weak to reduce the damage of the explosion.
