Slay the Spire 2 How to Defeat Bygone Effigy Elite

Slay the Spire 2

Before you reach the bosses of Act 1 in Slay The Spire 2, you’ll first have to go through several different rooms. If you happen to meet an elite in your path, one of which might be the Bygone Effigy elite.

Here’s how to defeat Slay the Spire 2 Bygone Effigy elite.

How to defeat Slay the Spire 2 Bygone Effigy Elite

The Bygone Effigy is an act 1 elite with a large HP pool (127) and comes with some rather devastating attacks.

This elite has to be one of the most annoying to deal with. You’ll need enough block cards while also dealing sufficient damage to avoid prolonging the fight. In many cases, you’ll have to tank a lot of damage from it. What makes it even more frustrating is that, in Act 1, it punishes players with weak decks, a common situation early in the run. Your starter deck will most likely consist of basic attack and defense cards, unless you’re exceptionally lucky.

Note that this elite has a debuff called Slow. This Slow ability makes him receive 10% more damage from attacks whenever you play a card. So we recommend using block or skill cards before casting your attacks.

Bygone Effigy starts with two turns doing nothing. First turn is Asleep, and second turn is Wake.

On his third turn and every turn after until the end of the match, he’ll continue to inflict 25 damage per turn. Unlike other bosses, there won’t be a turn where he doesn’t attack.

There’s no downtime when it comes to attacks. This elite will attack you every turn, so the best thing to do here is to finish this match as soon as possible, even if it means tanking some damage.

  • Take advantage of the slow debuff. With this effect, the elite gains 10% more damage each time a card is played. Because of this, it’s best to use low- or zero-damage cards first, such as blocks or basic strikes, then save your highest-damage attack for the final card of the turn.
  • Play as many cards as you can
  • Try to dish out as many frontloaded damage if you can during the first or second turn.
  • Kill it fast. You’ll sacrifice some HP, but playing defensively will only make you take more damage in the long run.
  • Use potions that deal damage to this elite, block incoming attacks, or otherwise help prevent taking heavy damage. You can also use potions that help finish the fight quickly.
