In Blue Prince, access to the Pump Room is important because it helps control water flow around the estate. One thing you can do in the Pump Room is drain the water from the fountain to access a new area.

Accessing the Pump Room
In order to be able to drain the fountain in the courtyard you will, first, need to draft and create the Pump Room. Now trying to draft that on its own could require a lot of luck with randomly finding it amongst your list of randomly spawning rooms.
However, one key way to being able to spawn the Pump Room, which seemed to work for me, is to, first, draft the Swimming Pool. Only after that has been created does the Pump Room finally decide to show itself.
Once you draft it, you’ll be able to access the Pump Room to drain the fountain. One of the interesting things about the fountain is that it will remain drained for future runs so long as you don’t change the configuration in the pump room.
Upon stepping into the Pump Room, you’ll notice that the pumps are connected to certain rooms. Pump one is connected to the Greenhouse and Aquarium, Pump Two controls the Fountain and the Reservoir, and the kitchen is controlled by the 4th pump.
How to Drain the Fountain in Blue Prince
Now that you are in the pump room, you need to figure out how to drain the fountain. You can do this by:
- Press the button for the Fountain at the control panel. Then you can start draining the water by toggling the switch at pump 2. You can also slip between the tanks. This will let you take out more water.
- Once the water drains, click another button at the control pannel. For example, click the kitchen button. Start flipping the toggles again. This will take water from the tank and send it to another room.
- Finally click the Fountain button at the control pannel. Drain the rest of the water into the tank.
Once it’s empty, you’ll be able to access the basement. Provided you have the key of course. The key can be found at the Antechamber.
Now you have drained the fountain in Blue Prince!
