In Clair Obscur Expedition 33 you need to fight Renoir several times. The first fight takes place at Lumiere whilst the other fight takes place later in the game at the Monolith. Sadly, neither fight is optional. You need to fight Renoir if you want to progress further in the storyline.
How to Find Renoir in Clair Obscur
This is the second right against Renoir. It’s at the Monolith which is northeast of Sirene.
It occurs at the top of the Monolith which is one of the last areas you go if you want to go on to defeat the Paintress. You’ll know you reached it when you pass the Tower Peak checkpoint. Then go forward to fight Renoir for the second time, he has some new moves to show us..
You will also find him just after the Clair Obscur optional boss
How to Defeat Renoir At The Monolith In Expedition 33
Similar to before, Renoir has no resitances or weaknesses. When he reaches half health, a message will flash across the screen that says something is coming, leading to the second phase of this fight. There are 2 phases in total
Phase 1 Renoir Monolith Solo Fight
- Melee Combo has Renoir swiping at a party member with six swipes of his sword. There is a long pause between the third and fourth hits.
- Vanish is where he tries to vanish a party member to remove them from the battlefield. To counter use a gradient counter when he jumps.
- Pool of Chroma sees him jumping to summon a chroma pool. When he lands then he will give void damage and inflict silence.
- Chroma Explosion is where Renoir launches four slow ranged attacks at the party. The third attack has a long rind up so don’t dodge early.
- Void Slashes is when chroma is built up and then explodes on the party. When the large orb vanishes, use a gradient parry.
Phase 2 Summoning The Dark Creature
- Launch Attack has the dark creature pouncing foward. Then it jumps back and lunges. You want to parry the first time just as the sound cuts out.
- Claw Attack is an attack where it attacks with two claw swipes and a bite.
- Gradient Tail is a gradient attack smacking the party with its tail. Make sure to use the gradient parry.
- Roar Attack is an attack where three projectiles are sent to the party. It’s face will glow to give an indication of when to roar and parry
After defeating canvas Renoir this time, you can go forward and fight the Paintress!
