Clair Obscur Expedition 33 - How to Beat Renoir Boss (Old Lumiere)

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 has many bosses that are optional or required to fight in order to get further along in the main story. In Old Lumiere you encounter Canvas Renoir for the first time and this is a fight you must engage in otherwise you can’t get further along in the story.

How to Find Renoir in Old Lumiere Clair Obscur

Renoir is first found in Old Lumiere which you need to go to during the second act of the game. It is southwest of Sirene and west of Sunless Cliffs. Once you step inside Old Lumiere follow along the path and you’ll come across the Manor Gardens Checkpoint. Go to the front yard and watch the cutscene. You will fight Renoir afterwards.

How to Defeat Renoir in Expedition 33

It’s important to note that Renoir doesn’t have any weaknesses. The best way to win against him is to dodge and parry accordingly. By managing to dodge and parry, you’ll stand a better chance at beating him.

Renoir has some strong moves that can knock your party for a loop if your not careful. They include:

When he attacks from a distance he launches four melee hits at you. Most of them are easy to parry.
His melee combo sees him attacking five times in a row. Right before the fourth hit he does jump so parry accordingly.
At one point Renoir will gather a huge amount of chroma. A ball forms in the air and will shoot a beam at you. This is a gradient counter move.
He will attempt to vanish and you need to use a gradient counter. If you don’t then your character will vanish from the fight and there is no bringing them back. Arguably his most deadliest attack
When Renoir wants to heal himself, he will start to have petals gather around him. You need to destroy them otherwise they restore 25 percent of his HP health
The waves of chroma Renoir sends at you are five ranged attacks so also parry these accordingly.
Finally, one of the more noticable moves is when he summons some strange masks. These will send seven ranged attacks at you. One trick I used was listening for the shoom sound. As soon as you hear it, counter!

In return for beating him you get XP, chrome, a Level 10 Malarum Weapon, Polished Chroma x3, and 1 Recoat.
