The Paintress, in Clair Obscur Expedition 33, is one of the big baddies you’ve been waiting to fight for almost the whole game. You fight her at the end of act 2 and it can be a difficult fight. Lucky for you we have this quick guide here to help you out.

How to Find the Paintress in Clair Obscur
The Paintress is found in The Monolith which is North of Sirene. You need to go along the storyline to be able to get to the point where you are ready to beat the Paintress. Once inside the Monolith, follow along the path and storyline. You’ll have to defeat Renoir once again before reaching the Paintress so be prepared for that!
How to Defeat the Paintress in Expedition 33
The Paintress fight has two parts two it with the second part being more complicated than the first. She doesn’t have any weaknesses or resistances so it’s a fly by the seat of your pants kind of fight. One particularly frustrating thing she does is cursing the party but if you want to delay the effects of the curse, shoot the orbs of light hovering over her head. It gives you two additional turns.
Paintress Phase Part 1
Here are the moves she uses for phase 1:
- Gradient Attack is an attack where she slashes at a player. Use the gradient counter for this move.
- Chroma Waves has 4 waves of chroma attacking your party. You need ot parry three times in quick succession with a delay in the last one.
- Scattered Chroma uses a void orb to attack your party five times in a row.
- Void Meteors is where 7 void meteors are created and sent towards a party member. Parry according to the rhythm.
- Monolith Rocks Three rocks are used from a Monolith to attack a party. The camera will zoom out so when it zooms back in, parry.
Phase Part 2
After defeating her the first time, she will summon her creation to help.
- Brush of Light is where a paint brush made of light is swung at the party three times.
- Reality Rip is where 5 balls of light are thrown towards the team. When they curve, dodge or parry.
- Flying Combo see’s the paintress flying and hitting the character with her brush 5 times. If you get hit, your character gets burned. Parry or dodge when she swoops down.
- Corrupted Chroma is when the team is hit with dark chroma. It makes the players defenseless, powerless, and cursed. You need to defeat her before the timer ends.
- Chroma Waves is where four waves of chroma are sent towards your team, causing defenceless to the players.
After the second phase, it might look like there is a third phase, but she has no fight left in her. Just finish it and you’ll get the Painted Power pictos.
