One of the more, perhaps difficult, mini games in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth FF7R is Fort Condor. Which becomes available during chapter 4 over in Junon. It is also part of both the Intel and the Captain’s Protorelic. Which is needed to unlock both Gilgamesh and, of course, the Fort Condor Commander trophy achievement.
LOCATING THE FORT CONDOR MINI GAME
Once you arrive in Junon during chapter 4 we will then be given a set of new intel to traverse and explore. This, of course, includes new Activation Intel, which helps locate other necessary locations that are required to fully 100% the list of intel. They basically locate hidden key areas of the map.
A few of these key areas of the map include the Phenomenon Intel, which is where our Fort Condor mini game resides.

WHAT IS FORT CONDOR?
For those who have played the original Final Fantasy VII you will no doubt be aware of what Fort Condor is. It is, of course, one of the available mini games and it makes a return in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Now there is a few changes compared to the original. For one, you are able to use your main characters and companions to help defend the Condor. So this includes Barret, Cloud and Tifa. However, to be able to use them there are a few requirements.
You are also limited to the same type of troops and soldiers too, some of which excel at sword play, whilst others prefer a bow and the long range style of attack. We can also make use of the ballista and trebuchet too.
WHAT IS THE MAIN OBJECTIVE IN FORT CONDOR?
The main objective in Fort Condor is to basically defend the condor from a series of incoming enemy threat. These are usually on-going until the battle is either won or lost. At least in the original Final Fantasy VII anyway. This time however, you are required to defend your three pillars that remain idle in your section of the playing field.

The same style of pillars are also situated on the opponent’s playing field too. So basically your objective is to destroy these said pillars or outposts. Though, not all of them need to be targeted. All you need to do is destroy the main pillar, often the middle situated one known as the Headquarters, to claim an instant victory.

THE MANY FORT CONDOR CHALLENGES
As the Junon Intel goes to as far as Phenomenon Intel 4 this means that you can expect a total of four Fort Condor challenge maps. These include missions such as; The World of Fort Condor, O Captain! My Captain!, Princess in Another Castle, and Interdimensional Warlock.
All four missions will feature Cloud and his party being teleported to a strange 3-D world where they will become a form of polygon forms of themselves. So basically, long story short, they get teleported into the Fort Condor game itself.
Here we will encounter soldiers and their captain, who actually happens to look like Gilgamesh. The problem is this captain has the Captain’s Protorelic in his possession, which we need to take from him. The only way we can do that is by defeating his minions. And playing Fort Condor.

LEARNING THE BASICS
First we need to locate the Fort Condor mini game board and interact with it. Once we have teleported into the game world we will be greeted with a small cinematic scene, often of Gilgamesh and his minions causing chaos and carnage.
After this cinematic we can then sort out our playing units and prepare for battle.
PREPARING OUR UNITS
Now there are 3 pages full of units that we can dispatch and make use of. These are categorized as our Ally Units. Whilst at the top of the screen we will have the Hero Units, which feature our main companions of Cloud, Barret and Tifa.

THE ALLY UNIT
Now our Ally Unit is often categorized into four pages which we can access by using the L2 and R2 buttons on the controller. These are usually and very often the same type of ally. From soldiers to Elites. Also both the trebuchet and ballista become very effective too. Though there is the option of swapping them out for more additional soldiers and Elites, the choice is yours to make.
HERO UNITS
However, with that being said do keep in mind that your Hero Units are affected by your choice of Ally Unit. For example next to the rather cute icon of Cloud we can see a small blue shield. This means he leads the defending type units. Whereas as Barret leads the ranged preferred allies with a picture of a bow and arrow.
The only unit we cannot play around with is the Outpost and Headquarters which we are tasked in defending. If we happen to lose our Headquarters it is then game over.

HOW TO ACTIVATE HERO UNITS IN FORT CONDOR
Now, as previously mentioned, the Hero Units are attached to the Ally Units. Take the Elite Vanguard for example who has a sword icon next to it. This represents that it is part of Tifa’s team. Whereas the Elite Enforcer sides with Cloud.
In order to activate Cloud or any one of your main companions you will be required to use members of their team. Constantly using an Elite Enforcer for example will increase your meter and bar in order to then activate Cloud in battle.

With the bar filled you can then summon your main Hero Unit out onto the field. Unfortunately though you cannot control your units, only summon them. They are mostly controlled by the AI. So this game requires quite a bit of strategic thinking.
POSSIBLE GAME OVER SCREENS
Now there are multiple ways to get a Game Over screen, which result in the choice of either submitting to defeat or having a rematch. One way is by letting the opponent defeat your Outposts and Headquarter pillars. As mentioned before. Another way is by letting the timer run out.
For each mission you attempt you will be given only 3 minutes in which to complete it. If you happen to fail in destroying the opponent’s Headquarters before the timer runs out then its an instant Game Over. Meaning not only do you need to keep an eye on your pillars you also need to watch for the timer too, so quite a bit going on there. Thankfully the playing maps are quite small.

MAINTAINING YOUR ATB SUMMONS
Now alongside keeping an eye on the timer and your Outposts you will also want to watch for that blue ATB bar. This bar is just as important as it continues to constantly fill. The only time it will stop or decrease is when you opt to summon a unit.
As each of these bars fill and your ATB increases you can summon more powerful units to the field. Such as the Elites which usually require a minimum of 2 ATB bars to be filled before actually being able to summon them.
So at the start of each mission you can expect to only have access to weaker units, makes sense right? Build that ATB bar to unleash your unit’s full potential.

UNLOCKING THE FORT CONDOR COMMANDER ACHIEVEMENT
The Fort Condor trophy achievement is essentially your reward for completing all 4 of the Junon Phenomenon Intels. With the Interdimensional Warlock mission being the last one.
Once the Interdimensional Mission has been completed you can then play more Fort Condor but on higher difficulties. Such as the Hard Mode. But this is optional and not required for with the Fort Condor Commander achievement or the Captain’s Protorelic.
