Final Fantasy VII Rebirth- Beneath Still Waters Side Quest

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Game Guides

The Final Fantasy VII Rebirth- Beneath Still Waters side quest can be found in the Junon Region during Chapter 12. Aerith is your companion for this quest. This quest becomes available after finishing the Tides of War and Worry side quest.

The Midgar Seventh Infantry’s request can be found on the Under Junon Community Noticeboard. The notice mentions the military needing assistance, from active and retired soldiers, with a deadly fiend that is within Crater Cape. Civilians are told to avoid the area due to the dangers.

Beginning the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth- Beneath Still Waters Side Quest

To begin the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth- Beneath Still Waters side quest, find the Midgar Seventh Infantry’s Request on your map after locating the noticeboard. Speak to a group of troopers that recognize Cloud. They tell you about a formidable fiend they came across and were unable to kill. They’re waiting on reinforcements and Aerith suggests they lend the troopers a hand. Cloud has two dialogue options.

  • “Sure.”
  • “Not yet.”

Select “Sure” to continue the quest.

The three troopers begin leading you to the fiend. You run into the commander on the way, but before she can say anything the fiend attacks, and Clouds tells them to fall back.

Fighting the Hell Rider II

The fiend is a giant creature on all fours with horns called a Hell Rider II. It has 27,827 health points. The best way to defeat it is to rotate between your playable characters and select various attacks to stagger it. However, defeating it does not equal killing it. You successfully cut off a part of its tail and it retreats. You’re rewarded with EXP, AP, and 1,052 gil.

The commander suggests using a Chocobo to track it down and kill it before it kills civilians. Call your Chocobo and, once it picks up the scent, follow the yellow glowing threat that appears. It will lead you to the Hell Rider. You’ll find the fiend by a pipe with mako leaking out of it. It uses the mako to regenerate its tail and recover all its health points before it takes off again.

You and your party are left to fight two flying fiends, a Stormwing and a Fonadu. The Stormwing rewards you with EXP, AP, 277 gil, and a beast pelt. The Fonadu rewards you with SP, a beast pelt, and 635 gil.

Tracking the Hell Rider II

Mount your Chocobo again and it will pick up the creature’s scent. Follow the thread and track down the fiend. It will be at the top of a mountain, surrounded by ruins. You’ll have to use your Chocobo to scale the mountain’s steep cliffs. Repeat the same process as earlier to defeat it. This time, it actually dies and you get EXP, AP, and 1,052 gil.

The commander reappears, thanking you for defeating the beast and she asks Cloud what’s on his mind. He has four options.

  • “What’s the 7th Infantry still doing out here?”
  • “What was with that fiend?”
  • “Can you brief me on the mission?”
  • “Nothing.”

It’s up to you, but “Nothing” is the quickest option to move on with the quest.

Rewards for the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth- Beneath Still Waters Side Quest

The commander recognizes Cloud and each of his party members. She does them a favor and says she won’t write about their presence in her report to her superiors. Instead, she’ll say that the 7th Infantry took down the fiend.

You’ll be rewarded for completing the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth- Beneath Still Waters side quest with Telluric Scriptures Vol. VI, part EXP, EXP for Cloud, and your relationship with Aerith deepens.
