In (MHWI) Monster Hunter Wilds fishing is another task that makes its return. It’s very important for your character to master the art of fishing so read on just how to do that!
Fishing in Monster Hunter Wilds also unlocks the Angling For A Bite trophy achievement. It is also related to a number of different side missions and quests
Unlocking Fishing in Monster Hunter Wilds

The first step is to unlock fishing because if you don’t then how are you ever going to go fishing? You are able to finally learn the game’s first fishing tutorial as soon as you unlock the Forest Camp. Here you can find your first fishing specific side quest: Fishing: Life in Microcosm. All you have to do is talk to Kanya fishing at the Scarlet Forest base camp.
Keep in mind there are different lures out there that will let you catch different kinds of fish but first lets get to know how you can actually fish in the first place. The lures won’t do you good if you don’t know how to fish.
How to Fish in MHW

Let’s get to the fun part: learning how to fish! Take out the fishing rod (this should be obvious) and cast your line. The tutorial will tell you all of this. Your fishing rod is also, automatically, added to your items. So scroll across your items until you find it. This is usually the Square button, as default on the Playstation. Equip the fishing rod and cast it into the water.
Whilst speaking with Kanya you will find a handy pool next to her. This is often full of fish. Though, if it looks empty, simply wait. Pools generally respawn fish after a certain period of time.
Then comes the waiting game, you can move the rod in the water up and down to try and entice the fish. But you will need to wait until you catch the attention of the nearby fish.
Once you get a fish, it’ll start moving. This leads us to the finale: bringing the fish to you! You can reel it in usually by a simple press of a single button. By default this is the R2 on the Playstation.
A few small tips to make the process go more smoothly. It is possible to move the lore just by moving it to attract fish but doing it too quickly will cause the lure to go back to you. To not real the lure in, just move it from left to right… and don’t press the button to reel in until you get a fish bite! Kind of defeates the purpose of fishing if there is no fish on the line when you reel it in.
